Ty Strange There are a few favorite "traditional" couples I could rattle of, Harry and Sally, Jason Borne and Maria, Wesley and Buttercup, but my favorite most enduring fictional couple is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Why? Simple: the trials and tribulations they share extend beyond the common fictional couple story lines of winning ones affection, atoning for immaturity, or sacrificial behaviors. It's about mutual respect and camaraderie no matter how self-destructive their lives are, always together until the end on their own terms.
Ty Strange Not sure I can call myself a writer yet, but as an aspiring novelist with a day job, I like creating stories that make me wish I were actually in them, if only as a fly on the wall.
Ty Strange It's quite simple, really; write!
Ty Strange Good question. For me it's as simple as trying to answer a question that has vexed me for a period time. That question could be as simple as "What if they did this instead of that?" or "Why are things this way?" Of course that is just the basic element, and from there, no matter how I decide to answer the question, either through the characters themselves or my own vision, the story and plot seeks to bring it to light in an entertaining and relatable way. Additionally, I have found that the movies and books that I enjoy the most have stories and plots with a cathartic experience from which I derive much satisfaction. Untangling a messy story often gives rise to a satisfying conclusion.
Ty Strange Currently my time has been devoted to indie publishing my debut novel, The Hunt for Wolf_Eyes. That in itself is time consuming when you have a full-time day job. However, I have storyboarded out two other novels, so the creative juices are always flowing and thinking about the future.
Ty Strange I haven't written enough to fully experience a true bout of writer's block, but on the few occasions where I have gotten stuck, I simply went out for a long run or bike ride (2-3 hours). Either activity allows me to break out of whatever it is that freezes me at the keyboard.
Ty Strange I was taking an online Writer's Digest course last year and the first assignment asked for us to create two characters, ideally a protagonist and an antagonist in the same story. Instead of taking from my list of characters that I had queued up at the time, I decided to start fresh for the sake of the class. I came up with a female vigilante hacker, and what could be more antagonistic to that than a male cybercriminologist. From there, tossing them into a story where their worlds collide, their personalities and circumstances drove the story and plot, and thus The Hunt for Wolf_Eyes was born.
