Andrew J. Aulner I think this blog post covers the bases pretty well:

Andrew J. Aulner Stay on Goodreads. Read a lot, write a lot. Be willing to write outside of your comfort zone (I'm no Dashiell Hammett, but that has yet to stop me from working on a manuscript for a detective novel). Don't be bashful about discussing your craft with others (as a natural introvert, this has been a tough lesson for me to learn). And never, never, NEVER forget that you're doing what you love.
Andrew J. Aulner Everywhere. Sometimes I'll come up with a scene of dialogue during church. Other times, I'll be in the shower when I'm struck with inspiration. Still other times, I'm actually sitting down, ready to write and thumbing through my half-a-dozen notebooks to find a nugget of an idea that could evolve into a full-blown story.
Andrew J. Aulner I'm currently working on world-building for a planned trilogy of fantasy novels, as well as revising a detective novel manuscript written for NaNoWriMo 2014. I also have at least three short stories to polish and perfect before submitting them for publication.
Andrew J. Aulner I write in a different genre than whatever I've been working in. I was trying to get through the second draft of a detective novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo 2014 but couldn't find the inspiration I need. So, I've turned my attention to fantasy, which has kept the creative juices a-flowing.
Andrew J. Aulner "The Bully Buster" resulted from a combination of bullying that I personally experienced in elementary and middle school with the stories of daring superheroes that I enjoyed reading about. I decided to write a novel about a bullied student who becomes a superhero.
