Claus Holm I’ve met as such experienced a mystery - but I’ve seen some rather scary stuff that would probably belong in a horror story. Shadow people and ghosts, to be more specific.
Claus Holm When my son came to me and asked me for food to feed the people living under the stairs, I laughed and thought it was cute. Now, lying in bed and listening to the footsteps coming up the stairs and my son whispering "he's in there", I'm not laughing anymore.
Claus Holm I'm not sure I would want to live in most of the worlds I enjoy reading about, as they're often quite dystopian. If I could choose a fictional world not from a book (unless the published "fan fiction novels" counts ;-) ) I think the Star Trek universe would be my preferred world to live in. And I'd join up with Starfleet. What else?
Claus Holm I'm reading "The Irresistible Summons" by Simon Dill, which is amazing, I'm also anxiously awaiting Stephen King's "The Institute".
Claus Holm Thomas Ward and Alice from the
"The Spook's Apprentice"-series.
Claus Holm My most recently finished story, which will be part of "Between Above and Below" is called "The Guardians" and is a story about an angel and a demon who has to work together to look after a child - as a guardian angel and guardian devil. I got the idea when I heard someone talking about the idea in Islam, that there is an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other, throughout your life, writing down everything you do. I thought: "Well, what if they're too big for the shoulder? What if they're just walking around us, looking at us and maybe helping out or doing damage at the same time."
At about the same time, I heard the expression "Bad Things always happen to good people" used in conversation, and I thought "That's not true. Good Things also happen to good people - and bad to bad people. But is that the work of an angel or a demon?"
And there was the story...
Claus Holm From my own dreams and nightmares. I suffer from nightmares a lot, usually 2 times a week at least, and I will wake up with a full recollection of the dream. Sometimes those stories are good enough that I decide to write them down.
Claus Holm As of the fall of 2014, I'm putting the last touches on "Between Above and Below" - a Collection of 4 longer short stories (two of them more like novellas). It will be more "straight fiction" than my first book, with less supernatural involvement.
After that, the book I'm currently writing is called "Tempus Investigations" and is about an immortal detective in San Fransisco, and his team of co-workers investigating strange phenomena and helping people in trouble.
Claus Holm To quote Stephen King: You have to read a lot and write a lot.
Claus Holm The best thing about being a writer is that you can touch people's lives why you have never met, and never WILL meet. I once wrote a story for my grandfather's funeral, and it was passed out to everybody there (it was my way of saying goodbye, as I couldn't make myself give a eulogy.) For about 15 years after, I got emails and letters from people who had read this story, having been given it by someone who was at the funeral. They would write to me and thank me for saying what they could not say themselves. That was an amazing feeling.
Claus Holm Writer's block as such hasn't happened to me, since I only write when I feel like it. But on the times where I have been stuck, I'll usually start writing dialogue for the characters about something else. Eventually, they will tell me where the story should go.
