Cam Day To start SOMEWHERE. Books are a lot like Play Doh -- when you play with it, you don't really have an idea of what you're going to end up making. Just write. Write what you're feeling, etc. And be sure to give yourself a deadline!
One of my struggles with writing is that I tend to immerse myself in the thought that a book can be perfect. The problem with this, of course, is there is no literal "formula" for creating the perfect book. What some people may consider a masterpiece, others will call it garbage. So, naturally, when you look back on your writing, you'll ALWAYS find something that you want to change. Don't get caught up in writer's limbo.
Cam Day I take a break from writing and let the ideas come naturally. Or, sometimes I write anyway. You never know what your brain will come up with. You may end up liking what you wrote!
Cam Day I get to share my stories with the hearts of billions. The best thing about being a writer - or most fulfilling thing - is knowing that my words were bought by someone. My book is sitting at their home on a shelf, perched next to their other favorite novels. It's a very powerful thing.
Cam Day If you're in the mood, just sit down and write! It doesn't have to be great or anything - in honesty, my first draft sucked - but as long as you get the words out there, you can always come back and spruce them up. It is a fantastic feeling.
This isn't so much as advice as a clarification that I'm sure many writers will agree with: a book is a lot like a puzzle. More often times than not, you won't start with chapter 1, then 2, then 3 and so on. You may begin telling your story by writing chapter 5, then work your way backwards and forwards. Writing is not a sequential thing.
Cam Day Usually I will write about something I endured. People say you should write about what you know. However, I have been keeping a dream diary lately. Who knows? Maybe one of my dreams will turn into a great book idea!
