Sharon Huss Roat Rose, I am so sorry I am just seeing your question. There is no plan for a sequel... though you're right, it would be fun to explore Jenna's view, wouldn't it? Who knows, maybe these characters will pop up in another, unrelated story somehow...
Sharon Huss Roat Hi Reece. I can't say that I had a specific reason for writing HOW TO DISAPPEAR. My stories just sort of develop and evolve from a kernel of an idea and that was the case with this book... it started with thinking about living vicariously through others (perhaps being jealous of someone else's more fabulous life), and collided with thoughts about social anxiety and soon the ideas all came together to form this story. It took me about 4 months (under deadline pressure from my editor) to draft a very rough first draft, and then another year or so to revise and edit.
Sharon Huss Roat Hi Susan. Thank you so much for reading, and for your kind words! I'm in the very early stages of writing my next book... I went about a year of not writing after my husband passed away in late 2017 and am just now getting back into a regular writing schedule. So, unfortunately, it may be another 2-3 years before I have something new in bookstores. (Once written and sold to a publisher it's usually another 18 months or longer until published.) I'm excited about my new project, which is very different from How to Disappear, but I hope you'll like it. In the meantime, if you haven't read my first novel Between the Notes perhaps that can give that a try. Thanks for your question! :-)
Sharon Huss Roat I'm currently reading STRANGE THE DREAMER by Laini Taylor. It's fabulous, and I just marvel at the worlds and characters she creates and the way she describes them. Absolutely gorgeous. Also on my summer reading list: CARAVAL by Stephanie Garber, GIRL OUT OF WATER by Laura Silverman, plus a dozen books that have been on my TBR shelf for months, including LAIR OF DREAMS by Libba Bray and TORCH AGAINST THE NIGHT by Sabaa Tahir. Plus I'm looking forward to books coming out this summer like THIS IS HOW IT HAPPENED by Paula Stokes.
Sharon Huss Roat Hi Pamela. Thanks for your question! While I've thought about what happens next for Ivy, Lennie and James (and Brady, and Molly, and Reesa...), there are no current plans for a sequel. If I did write a continuation of their story, I've imagined it would take place when they go off to college. For now, though, what's coming next from me is another standalone YA contemporary, called HOW TO DISAPPEAR coming in summer 2017 (also from HarperTeen).
