Thank you so much for reading, and for your kind words! I'm in the very early stages of writing my next book... I went about a year of not writing after my husband passed away in late 2017 and am just now getting back into a regular writing schedule. So, unfortunately, it may be another 2-3 years before I have something new in bookstores. (Once written and sold to a publisher it's usually another 18 months or longer until published.) I'm excited about my new project, which is very different from How to Disappear, but I hope you'll like it. In the meantime, if you haven't read my first novel Between the Notes perhaps that can give that a try. Thanks for your question! :-)(less)

Thanks for your question! While I've thought about what happens next for Ivy, Lennie and James (and Brady, and Molly, and Reesa...), there are no current plans for a sequel. If I did write a continuation of their story, I've imagined it would take place when they go off to college. For now, though, what's coming next from me is another standalone YA contemporary, called HOW TO DISAPPEAR coming in summer 2017 (also from HarperTeen).(less)

Ahhhh so good. So Thrashy. So much page-turny goodness, er... badness? I've read all of Maggie's books and this is my favorite. You could say I've grown up with Maggie, following her along in her evolution as an author. And this book felt like she'd ...more

“Truth is overrated," he said. "It's hardly ever as good as what you imagine.”
Sharon Huss Roat, Between the Notes: A Poignant YA Coming-of-Age Story About Loss, Piano, and Discovering Your True Self

“People are mirrors - they don't see you how you see yourself”
Sharon Huss Roat, How to Disappear

“Lipton leans down to talk low in my ear. “It’ll be fun. Don’t worry.”
So of course I start worrying, because people never say “don’t worry” if there is absolutely no cause for worry. They also don’t say “be careful” if something is perfectly safe. Or “stay warm” if there isn’t a distinct possibility of freezing to death.”
Sharon Huss Roat, How to Disappear

“I want to kiss you," I say, "but I seem to be holding this cat."

Skunk lifts his hand and touches it to the side of my face. His fingers are warm from carrying the hot skillet to the table. He regards me very seriously, and for a moment I wonder if he's about to tell me we should Focus on Bicycle Repair. Instead he just looks at me for a very long time.

"You're beautiful," says Skunk, "and completely batshit.”
Hilary T. Smith, Wild Awake

“Did you see that guy in the back, from the radio station?’

His smile is a jar full of fireflies.

‘Crazy Girl,’ he says.
‘All I saw was you.”

“...both he and she were creek beds, quiet when they were full and quiet when they were dry. But when they were half-full, wearing a coat of shallow water, the current bumped over the rocks and valleys in the creek beds, wearing down the earth. Giving someone else a little of who they were hurt more than giving up none or all of it.”
Anna-Marie McLemore, When the Moon Was Ours
