T.J. Turner The idea found me. I think many writers have that same experience. Somehow, the idea floats down in front of us, just begging to be written.
T.J. Turner I'm not entirely certain...it just comes. There are days I don't feel like it, and days I can't wait to get ideas down on paper. I never force it. It comes when it comes.
T.J. Turner My work in progress is another historical novel, this time set in New York City during the Revolution. It deals with the art of spying, and how that helped General Washington turn the war...and my take on the famous Agent 355--allegedly the female agent in the Culper ring who helped crack the possibility that General Benedict Arnold was preparing to switch sides!
T.J. Turner Find some genuine curiosity for something you love, and chase after it. There's a great clip on Youtube, an interview with Andre Dubus III, about authentic curiosity. Once you find that, then all you have to do is get the roadblocks (those daily things that keep you from your keyboard) out of the way and start writing.
T.J. Turner I haven't figured that out yet! So far, the best part of this journey has been getting that call that the novel sold. Then more hard work began. I'm betting that the best part of having my first book come out will be in the coming weeks before the launch! Although, getting my first review from someone who didn't even know me, that was awesome!
T.J. Turner I don't stress over writer's block. If I feel like I can't complete something, like right now (I'm stuck on the ending of a chapter in my newest manuscript), then I just don't force it. I can't tell you how many times the answer has just come to me later, almost as if the characters, or the story, or something, just needed me to wait it out a bit longer to see the answer.
