I met her through LinkedIn- she has not done any design work for me, but she seems very professional.

As a bookaholic and an ocean person from New England, I'd love to live in a small coastal town that has a great bookstore, library, and lots of community music and theater and arts. I'd spend my days writing, walking on the beach with my husband, enjoying his amazing cooking and humor, and of course, reading and doing community service and work on systemic racism. Oh, and I'd travel oftn to see and hug my grandkids hopefully in a post-Co-vid world!

I awoke to find all of the world's libraries and bookstores had disappeared, as had all the books crammed throughout my house. All was lost.

I just read BLENDED by Sharon Draper which I absolutely loved and reviewed on my website blog (www.lynnslaughter.com) and am currently reading Karen McManus's TWO CAN KEEP A SECRET which has got me on the edge of my seat!

For me, it's mostly about getting started. Once I start on something, a new scene, chapter, whatever- I'm usually okay. It helps to read what you've written the day before and get back into the flow of what you're working on. I know that some writers advocate stopping mid-scene the day before.
I try to keep in mind the title of one of my favorite self-help books: FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY!

It can be so engrossing to lose yourself in another world. One of my favorite comments that I once heard was: "Fiction is the writer's revenge on reality."

I honestly think writing is about passion, determination, perseverance and "butt-in-chair" more than innate talent or "inspiration." It's important to read as much as you can and of course, to put yourself on a regular writing schedule-- even though it will fall apart at times! Also it's good to be kind to yourself, accept that there will always be more, and that revision is a must!

I'm working on revising my third YA novel, GONE, about a biracial teen on scholarship at an elite New England boarding school whose mentor and music teacher suddenly goes missing.

I am a naturally nosey person! I get inspired by thinking about people and situations and asking myself that age-old writer's question: What if?

I've always been fascinated by missing persons' cases, especially folks who simply disappear into the ether! I also love exploring close mother-daughter relationships.
The related story in the novel, MISSING MOM, which chronicles a young woman's escape from an abusive marriage, was inspired in part by the experiences of a high school friend with a very controlling boyfriend whom she married. In retrospect, we didn't know enough to know that his behavior was a warning sign of potential abuse, which sadly is what it became.
