Peter Best Like most writers we all have days when we are quite happy sitting in front of our computers typing away and everything is going well. then there are other days when nothing seems to be working and frustration sets in followed by the feeling of, "I can't be bothered."
On days like this we all need that little bit of inspiration to get us back on track.
So, where do I get it from?
To be honest other writers. Quite often I look at other writers websites and look at what they have achieved in the past. This often works for me and gives me the kick up the backside I need to get going again.
There are of course many other methods but this one is working for me at the moment.
Peter Best I heard a quote once that went something like this, "The best advice I can give someone about writing a book, is not to start." What an utter load of rubbish!
The best advice I can give someone just starting, is go for it heart and soul and don't stop until you have reaped the rewards.
Ok, without a doubt the road to writing a book is going to be very hard indeed but believe me when you get to the end the feeling is fantastic.

However! It must be said, "There is a great deal of talent out there just waiting to be discovered. Unfortunately it is a sad fact that many of these talented writers will stay undiscovered and not for any fault of their own. We all know there is an immense amount of competition out there and the odds are stacked very heavily against an unknown writer." Believe me when I say this!
Now I don't want to sound negative but to give this a good shout I will give the same advice as was given to me.
"Make your work perfect! Don't settle for, good enough. It must be perfect! Simple as that!"
So there you have it really, make your work perfect but as you do, don't forget enjoy it. But always keep in mind that when you have finished your novel you have made a great achievement. So don't stop, keep going and put your heat and soul into it.

There is a piece in the questions section where I go into this with a bit more detail
Peter Best The Burden of Truth evolved from many ideas really. However, even though part of the story is set in India the main idea came after I had a conversation with a very old but very wise monk in Sri-Lanka.
The conversation I had with this man will stay in my head forever. Now I don't want to say what was in this conversation as that would give away the plot of the story and certainly give away the twist at the end. Not only this but the hidden message of the novel.
Peter Best This question is actually quite hard to pin this down to one thing. So to generalise it a bit I would say the enjoyment it brings.
Fair enough being a writer is not always enjoyable, a great deal of your time you may feel really frustrated when things aren't going well. However when I look at the bigger picture so to say, the sheer feeling of self satisfaction and achievement especially after you have worked for hours and hours on a project is tremendous.
In addition to this, of course there are many thing that contribute to all of this. One thing that comes to mind is that writing makes you learn. By this I mean doing research for you book, going out to various places, talking to various people. All of this makes it exciting and worthwhile.
So as I said at the start, for me there is no best thing! it is a combination of many things. Put all of these together along with other things not mentioned and out of the mix; enjoyment and a love of writing.
Peter Best A few years back I went to a writers seminar in London. One of the talks there was about writers block and how to deal with it.
After various discussions the general feeling was to get over this problem was simply to write. Write anything that comes into your head. Doesn't have to be good, doesn't have to be well written, it doesn't even matter about the spelling. Just write!
However, to prompt this we were given a subject for this work. The subject was; when I was young I used to .... Then just write.
Doing this often works for me. Just thinking of this sentence and just writing down a few things and sure enough the brain unclogs itself. As I said it works for me, try it out.
Peter Best At the moment I am working on two follow up novels to The Burden of Truth.
With a bit of luck the first one will be ready sometime next year. (The title remains a secret for now.) The following book should be coming out the year after. Fingers crossed.
In addition to theses two books I am quite excited about another novel set in india about the adventures of two young men in the search for a stolen rucksack. This is only at the planning stage for now so I don't know when it will be ready but rest assured I am working hard at it.
