Victoria Steele Logue I would definitely love to visit the world I created for "The Hallowed Treasures Saga"--The Thirteen Kingdoms. I would also love to meet some of the characters I created :-)
Victoria Steele Logue Interesting. I no longer have any mysteries in my life. When I was a teenager, I found a crumpled up note that my father had written to his ex-wife (my mother) that said something along the lines of giving up me "like she had her first daughter 16 year ago". Cruel, which is probably why it was crumpled up. It took me a few years before I got up the nerve to ask my mother about it. Turned out, he was the reason my mother had to give my sister up. By the time I was 29 and pregnant with my daughter, we finally got in contact with her, and now I have known her for half my life! I suppose, with some tweaks, that might make a good book.
Victoria Steele Logue She was awakened from a deep sleep by a skittering sound just beneath her right ear. Turning on the light, she could see movement in her pillowcase, and with a shaky hand, she lifted the fabric.
Victoria Steele Logue Good question! At this point When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi and Small, Great Things by Jodi Picoult are the only things on my list because I'm reading them for book club. Probably some Stephen King, Owen King and Joe Hill, as well, though.
Victoria Steele Logue That's a tough one. Amusingly, most of the books I've read over and over don't have couples as main characters (the Merlin series by Mary Stewart or "The Count of Monte Cristo", for example). Exceptions might be Celia de Bohun and Stephen Marsden in "Green Darkness" by Anya Seton (although that ended tragically). Of course, there's always Jane Eyre and Edward Rochester--love that book! And another favorite--Camilla Haven and Simon Lester in Mary Stewart's "My Brother Michael", my favorite of her romantic suspense novels.
Victoria Steele Logue I've found the only thing that helps me is just to sit down and write whether I want to or not. On my worst days, I may only write a sentence or two, but there have been times when I sat down, not wanting to write, and the next thing I know I've written 2,000 words.
Victoria Steele Logue While I am mostly known for my nonfiction works about backpacking, hiking, and the like, my real joy comes from writing fiction. That's the best thing to me--being able to immerse myself in a story, to become a part of that world and those characters. I'm the most fond of the nonfiction books I've written that I've been able to include stories from history within the text.
Victoria Steele Logue Two things: Read and Write. Read as much and as varied a number of books as possible. Stephen King suggests at least 52 a year. I agree, and usually read more. If you don't read, don't even try writing because believe me, it will show. And write everyday. Even if you are just journaling until you have a story idea, write.
Victoria Steele Logue Having just finished my fantasy trilogy, I am taking a break and working on short stories while looking into what I want to do next.
Victoria Steele Logue I've been writing for so long that I now know that if I just sit down in front of my computer and begin to write, it usually flows. If it doesn't, I stop. What helped immensely with this is taking part in NaNoWriMo, in which you have to write 50,000 words in one month. It forces you to put words down on paper, so to speak. On the other hand, there will be some days, you just don't feel like writing. As I said, if it doesn't flow, don't force it. Inspiration should come from the world around you--you should see possibilities in everything from the bird in the birdbath to the chore of vacuuming.
Victoria Steele Logue The idea for my fantasy trilogy (the final book to be published in May 2017) germinated with a sketch of one of the main characters while distracted in geology lab in college. Later, it began to progress to the idea of a princess leaving the sheltered kingdom she'd lived in all her life to seek adventure and love. And finally, became a Quest for the 13 Hallowed Treasures of Britain in order to bring peace to the Thirteen Kingdoms.
Victoria Steele Logue Funny you should ask! A number of readers have asked for a sequel, and I am currently working on a book with Erzsébet Báthory as the vampire antagonist. Hopefully, it will be ready for publication next fall.
