Write for yourself first. Do it for the love of writing and a story well told. Learn to share what you've written. It took me years to do that and then to accept that the criticisms were actually meant to be HELPFUL instead of taking them so personally.

Hearing people say they were up until 1am reading or that they had to stop reading one of my books at night. Knowing I've done a good job at recreating the images, dialogues, and characters that I have in my head for others to enjoy.

I don't FORCE myself to write X-number of words a day. I have a goal I try to reach on the weekends and another goal for during the week and if I don't make them, I don't stress about it. I let the characters come to me when they are ready. I may not write anything for months, then suddenly, I'll write a lot for another month.

We were on a road trip and I happened to glance up and say an actual road sign that said, "Dark Hollow Road" and immediately thought, "If that's not the title of a horror novel, I don't know what is!" I didn't know what the book would actually end up being about though.
