I'm between projects -- Gentleman in Waiting just came out, and I'm plotting a new novella which will be a companion book to Ruining the Rake.

Stick to it, as long as you're having fun. In the classes I teach, I see lots of people with talent, but most of them don't make it to the finish line because they get discouraged or don't devote the time it takes to learn and practice their craft. The first book usually isn't strong enough -- it's a learning experience. But a lot of people give up if the first book doesn't go smoothly or isn't well-received.

The flexibility and the adventure -- I can live through my characters and take on any job or hobby or characteristic I want to explore. And in a few months I can move on to the next one. :)

Usually when I'm suffering from writer's block it's because I don't know what comes next, or because I've taken a wrong turn and let a character say or do something that they just wouldn't. The first step is to back up and read the last scene or two, then brainstorming till I'm certain what's going to happen next in the story.
