By giving myself TIME...walking, spending time in nature, gardening, doing yoga, sitting under my beach umbrella (in summertime), or spending time with friends and family. The practices of silence, solitude, and stillness fill my tank and make space for new thoughts and ideas to form.

It is cathartic for me, personally, and helps me move through life with more clarity and peace. Second, the satisfaction of hearing my words brought life to someone. I think of a woman who FB messaged me. She found my book, "Overcoming Hurtful Words: Rewrite Your Own Story," at a CHOICE rack in a truck stop. Her words humbled me and stirred me to keep sitting at my desk, scratching out sentences and paragraphs, and ultimately, to stay the course, regardless of rejections.

Hone your craft. As a non-fiction writer, I still actively study fiction to sharpen my skill at telling stories. I read great writing and take notes on sentence structure, plot and theme development, and practice what I've learned on my blog/IG posts. More than anything, I pay attention to life and lean into what it is trying to say to me.

This past year, a common theme in my practice has been the effect of childhood/generational trauma on a family system. Client after client has come to me with issues surrounding the issue of trauma. I've delved deep into more education/certification/study in order to be more effective. And then, my 92-year old mother passed of Covid-19 complications, leading me to even greater depths of the power of family. If I'm dreaming big, I'd like to take all this and place it into my next book. I have a couple of titles in mind, but time will tell!

Without a doubt, my inspiration comes from my clients. I feel so honored and privileged to sit with them, listen in between the lines of their stories, help them discern truth from lies, and ultimately, walk alongside them as they journey through significant pain.

Great question. When I finished, "Overcoming Hurtful Words: Rewrite Your Own Story" (2017), I realized my own healing journey was really just beginning. Learning to be "whole" and "happy" and "free" isn't as easy as it sounds. When you've lived in dysfunction for years, freedom comes with a cost. So, I began a journey of learning NEW behaviors, which developed into more research and study. I knew I needed new emotional health tools and from there found (9) tools that I believe make the healing journey easier to navigate.
