It depends on the type of project I'm working on. If I have an outline but I'm stuck on the details, I revisit the outline and the underlying research that supports it. Sometimes that will get me unstuck. Other times, I find that I need to jump to a different section of the book altogether and work on it for a while before I come back to the trouble spot.
If I'm stuck because of a missing element -- whether it's a hole in my research or an analogy that would drive the point home -- I give myself permission to step away and do some hunting. Oftentimes additional stories or sources of data will bring those "aha" moments I need to keep writing.

As a mom of young kids, I love the flexibility my writing career affords. When my kids were babies, I wrote during their naptime. When they were toddlers, I wrote during preschool. Now that they're in full-time school, my writing hours are a little longer, but I still have flexibility to go to their special events during the day.
I also love hearing from readers. It's mind-boggling to think that the words I type in anonymity have the ability to reach far and wide. Knowing that I've touched someone through my words is such a blessing, and I'm grateful God has allowed me to live out this calling.

Start writing and don't stop, no matter how great or terrible you think you are. A writer isn't a writer unless they write. Also, get plugged in to a local writing group or community. This career path can be a solitary road to travel, so find other writers who are on the journey with you.

Because I write Christian books, a huge part of my inspiration is spending time with God in the Bible. I love how He continually makes passages fresh and new, no matter how many times I've read them in the past.
Everyday life is another big source of inspiration for me -- spending time with my family, coaching and teaching my wellness and fitness clients, running errands, watching movies, etc. It's all fodder for the imagination.

My book, Prayers for Hope and Healing, was borne from my challenging journey of going through medical complications, as well as watching my sister walk the difficult road of receiving a heart transplant. Medical patients face a litany of unsettling emotions and scenarios. I wanted to create a prayer manual that connects them with God as they face each situation.
