Susan Brewer Always carry a notebook book around, because inspiration can strike any time.Often it's triggered by a fragment of overheard converstion, or maybe just from people watching. Try to write something each day, even if it's only a diary.
Rather than immediately launching into a novel, it maybe an idea to send some articles to magazines which deal with subjects that interest you - that way, when you finally approach a publisher, you will already have a track record of published features.
Susan Brewer At the moment I am working on a light-hearted book called 'Nelly Makes a Bloomer', which is the follow-up to 'Nelly's Knickers'. Set in the 1990s, it centres around a lively group of senior citizens. When Nelly won a breadmaking machine, she could never have dreamt of the trouble it would cause - nor could the much-hated district nurse!
Susan Brewer I'm a great fan of the natural world, and love the various Springwatch/Autumnwatch/Winterwatch programmes. I decided to write a book featuring the presenters of a similar programme, and weaving interesting facts about the natural world into the text. Thus 'Birds, Beasts and Ben' came about.
