Alyson Mead I'm assuming she means the description of the hemispheres in an astrology chart, which are indeed counter-intuitive. Don't ignore the traditional compass but know that, in this one instance, the directions are flipped. :) Thanks for your question!
Alyson Mead Oooh, so many! Recently scored The Hate U Give and Since We Fell at the library, and looking forward to checking out Mary Gaitskill's Don't Cry and finishing up The Manor, which I started this spring.
Alyson Mead I want to say where I left my damn keys, but I think a more compelling plot might be where ideas come from, and where they go when I don't listen to them.
Alyson Mead Probably Kate and Petruchio from Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. It's a very modern-feeling play, even today. They're a couple trying to make it work in a world whose ideas seem well past, and challenging each other to not just accept what's right in front of them. I even used it as inspiration for my play The Taming of the Dude, out in fall of 2017.
Alyson Mead Two things, actually. A non-fiction book about energy work and a YA novel about psychic best friends.
Alyson Mead Read a ton, including stuff outside your chosen genre, have incredible life experiences, say yes more than no, be willing to fail spectacularly, and have some fun along the way.
Alyson Mead That's a tough question to answer The best thing, I guess, is that you can structure each day the way you want to. But then your characters come in and mess that whole idea up. They hardly ever cooperate. :)
Alyson Mead I don't get writer's block. If I did, I'd probably go for a walk in my neighborhood.
Alyson Mead I hardly ever need to find inspiration. It's all around me. I find nature envigorating, and shamelessly eavesdropping on people.
Alyson Mead I found a series of old diaries in the garage, and spent the remainder of the day sitting on a paint can and reading them. The stories were painful, amusing and I thought pretty relatable to a wider audience, so I began to write a memoir about the formative years of a psychic for hire.
