Alyson Mead attended Boston College, the Slade School of Art in London, and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She has worked in publishing as an editor and ghostwriter, and in film development at New Line Cinema, Sony Pictures, Village Roadshow, and the Buena Vista Motion Picture Group. She has also produced a documentary on mandated medical care, featuring Susan Sarandon, and a feature film starring Olympia Dukakis.

Alyson's fiction, essays and articles have appeared in over forty publications, including Salon, In These Times, Bitch, BUST, Whole Life Times, Punk Planet, MSN, The Sun, AOL's That's Fit, Tapestry, Stylus, Clackamas Literary Review, and the New York Daily News, among others. Dean Filmmaking Grant, and awards from Writer’s Digest, Indie Excellence, Writers Block and USA Book News, and is also the bestselling author of four books, including Searching for Sassy: An L.A. Phone Psychic's Tales of Life, Lust & Love, which is being developed for television by the producers of USA Network's PSYCH.

For theatre television and and screenwriting, she's also studied at Yale, and with iO West, UCB and Tectonic Theatre Project. Her award-winning plays have been staged at Off-Off Broadway and regional theaters around the country and in London, including La MaMa, St. Mark's Church, Judson Church, WAM Theatre, 8BC, Pasadena Playhouse, Magnolia Theatre, Venus Theatre, the Women Playwrights Conference, Limelight, the Other Space Theater, the Hudson, Atwater Village Theater, Sacred Fools and the Lillian, among others.

Alyson won the Henley-Rose Award, the Bridge Initiative New Play Award and the University of Houston’s 10-Minute Play Festival, and has been a finalist for the Kenneth Branagh Award for New Dramatic Writing, the Collective: 10 Play Festival, the Cimientos/IATI Theater Play Development Program, NEWvember New Plays Festival and the Teatro Moz Playwriting Competition. She was awarded residencies and fellowships through Ragdale, the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland, Can Serrat and the Women’s International Study Center.
