Danette J. Hansen I struggle more with time than writer's block. If I am stuck in a story then I just move on to the next story rattling in my brain. I have found when the time is right everything seems to get un-stuck. So I guess the way I would answer to writer's block is to keep writing, even if its in something totally different. Keeping the creative juices flowing helps everything fit into place when it needs to.
Danette J. Hansen There's great satisfaction that comes from discovering a story as you write it, but of course the most satisfying is when someone else loves the story like you do. The characters become a part of your life--some of my best friends are fictional.
Danette J. Hansen Remember writing is a process. It's a skill that has my layers to learn so practice writing, get in a critique group, read, and write some more. But most importantly never give up.
Danette J. Hansen The sad thing is I have more than one I want to work on, but it's all a matter of which character I'm plugged into. Right now I need to get finish the sequel to my middle grade, Swallowed Compass. But lately I've had another idea battling for attention. Too many ideas not enough time....
Danette J. Hansen When an idea won't leave me alone I have to write about it. The first I generally come up with it the name of the main character. I might know how I want the story to end or I might only know certain scenes I want to include in the story. I then do some research and that's where the inspiration comes from. It's fun to see how one idea leads to another. I would call the writing project magical. (Even if I don't have magic in my story)
Danette J. Hansen Actually, a writer friend had suggested I write a story about how someone dead trying to talk to someone living, like a medium or something. My take on it lead me in the direction of ancestors. The fun thing about ideas or writing prompts is that everyone comes up with their own idea.
