Smoke & Mirrors is my most recent book about a young woman just starting out in her career as a policewoman. That is something I always wanted to be, other than an author. When I was in my twenties, policewomen weren't as accepted as they are now. I thought it would be interesting to see what would happen putting her in a small town with rather 'backward' ideas of what a woman should do. The characters take over the story leading me where they want to go.

I start with a prayer, then I look for a good mystery, whether it's on TV, in the paper, or in a book. Then I let my imagination take me where it wants to go.

I get to be anyone, go anywhere, and do any job I want. I love letting my imagination go wild.

When I get stuck on a story, or a day or a week, I usually walk away from the computer and go read a good book to clear my mind. I ask God to direct my thoughts, and before long things begin to work themselves out.

I'm currently working on a book that takes place in Bisbee, Arizona. When Jillian's sister dies, she sets out to prove she didn't kill herself. I'm excited to see exactly where this will lead her and the other characters. They always have a say in where the story goes.
