Adam J. Watts No one place really. Being a work in progress for a few years (whilst I had to endure the usual commitments we all encounter) "Moral Compass" kind of evolved with me.

I suppose my passion for Second World War history inspired me to an extent, but I wouldn't say it had a massive influence on the story or characters I created. Similarly the divided opinions we all have on potentially controversial matters, served as fuel for my metaphorical fire when writing...

I wanted to provoke reactions from the reader, but not just that. My hope was for them to follow this up with a question. Ultimately whether or not their decision was the right one!

People are powerful. Their actions and reactions are just as capable of shaping history as any event around them.
Adam J. Watts It sounds lame, but I have to be in the right frame of mind. There is no telling when this will happen or indeed what triggers it.

I wish I knew, because it can happen at some fairly inopportune moments (during which I rarely have a pen and notepad available!) - Typical eh?
Adam J. Watts Escapology and the freedom to put a character into positions and scenarios you are unlikely to find yourself in.
Having said that, I believe it is important never to ask your characters to undertake a task you would struggle with yourself.

Unless of course you are writing within a genre like Science Fiction or Fantasy for which the realms of realism can be acceptably stretched and distorted accordingly.
Adam J. Watts I'm no expert and can only speak from personal experience, but in my mind there is no point staring at a blank page. Go out. Get away from your laptop / PC for a while. Do something completely different.

Write because you are inspired to do so. Forcing out several chapters at a time will only cheapen the experience for all concerned... If you didn't enjoy it, chances are neither will your readers.
Adam J. Watts You'll never know until you give it a go... Hmm, I didn't mean for that to rhyme, but we'll roll with it.

In all seriousness, writing a book is something I have always aspired to do. I have no formal training as it were, but if I can bring enjoyment to the people who read my book(s), that is a bonus.

I'd recommend the process to anyone who has a hankering for creative writing. It is extremely rewarding, but by no means an easy ride!
Adam J. Watts I am currently working on Book Two of the Samuel Beasley Trilogy: "Lost Bearing". This does however, have to be done in my free time (of which there is little at the moment), so please be patient with me... It will be worth your while - he says!

I'll give you a little taster in the meantime. Despite keeping his true identity a secret, Seb is already making new 'friends' and influencing people and I've only got as far as chapter four...
