“I cadged a complimentary green matchbook with a gold bird icon from the Bell canning jar. Later we'd use the matches to light our spliffs. My fingertips tapped the stem to the gizmo that dinged a bell. Nobody came out. Wrong signal, so I did two bell rings. No response prompted me to tap out a series of bell rings.”

I do like his style.
Your book sounds like one I want to read, too. Hope to talk to you more later.
J.R., it was my pleasure to accept your friendship today ... both for the friendship and for discovering your books. I marked a couple to-read. I also wandered here and in Amazon doing fanning and liking clicks in some of your places. I noticed that you have read Turning Angel by Greg Iles. It was the middle of three of his books concerning Penn Cage. You rated it with four stars, and I gave it five. Truth be known, the other two Penn Cage books are significantly better. The Quiet Game is the first one. The Devil's Punchbowl is the second. Unwritten Laws: The Bone Tree and Unwritten Laws: The Trial of Tom Cage are two volumes that will come out in 2012 and will continue the saga of Penn Cage. I believe Iles will knock it out of the park with these two. They were originally to be one book but got expanded. He says the two volumes will be the equivalent of three of his normal works. He would have had the first out before yearend, but he was in a bad auto accident in March. They did some repair to his aorta, his right leg below the knee had to be amputated, and a few other things. He's out of the woods now. I think the guy is a genius. I just thought I'd give you a heads up. If you read TQG and TDP before the two new ones come out, you'll be set.
J.R., thank you for accepting my friendship. Hope your holiday season was a pleasant one. Though the holidays have psaaed, may I ask you for a belated Christmas gift: would you please visit my website, www.authorgeraldgriffin.com, and sign my Guest Book. It would be a special gift to see you there!Gerald
