Kathy Porter was born and raised in Endicott, NY, the birthplace of IBM, just a few miles from where Rod Serling, the creator of one of her favorite TV series, was raised. Kathy became obsessed with science fiction and became an avid reader after reading Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles.

She received plenty of encouragement from her father, a science teacher who sparked her interest and imagination during backyard outings with the family telescope.

As the second-to-eldest of seven children, Kathy shared a room with her two sisters. During long winter nights, Kathy polished her storytelling abilities with her original bedtime stories. How do you get inspired to write?

I have discovered one thing that works for me as far as stimulatin…moreI find just placing my fingers on my keyboard begins the mental process of writing. I have discovered one thing that works for me as far as stimulating my imagination is leaving off writing in the middle of a paragraph or even leaving a sentence unfinished. When I read where I left off with a hanging sentence I immediately get a great sensation of progress from completing the last thought I was writing. Then my fingers begin to fly across my board as the ideas flow through them. That sense of instant accomplishment kick starts my imagination.

I also like to have a glass of wine handy and play opera music very loudly sometimes, especially during intense and emotional scenes.

I am currently writing the third book in the series, T…moreMy most recent book, Escape From Nuur, is the 2nd book in an eight book science fiction series. I am currently writing the third book in the series, The Journey.

My inspiration that began this entire series actually came to me in an early morning dream. The haunting dream was impossible to get out of my thoughts and I found myself telling my husband about over coffee. Even as I spoke my mind kept building on the possibilities and ideas the dream had awakened. I told my husband that if someone wrote a book about it I would love to read it. My supportive man said, "If you want to read it, you'll have to write it."

That's how the series began! I thought I was writing one book, but my characters have lives they want told. Who am I to say no to my dream. So the saga continues!(less)
