Join Our New Facebook Group - Authors Boosting Authors
Authors Boosting Authors:
www.facebook.com/groups/635184029962074/
I created this group for writers after a long search . . .
I wanted a group where authors could help each other. Those groups in Facebook geared towards writers generally lean towards two camps. In one, you have groups where authors data dump ads and posts promoting only their own works. In the other, you have groups that share articles and online resources about the craft of writing.
Both of the aforementioned have their own sense of merit. But in my search, I realized I wanted something more.
So I started this Facebook group with one goal in mind: authors boosting authors.
The goal is to have authors who are willing to support others. Here's how it works (or how it should): introduce yourself, with maybe a quick mention of your book or project. But more importantly, put yourself out there as someone willing to help. And then help. Promote another writer's book. Share a post. Tweet. Mention a writer on your own website. Then, politely ask for help from others. The results may surprise you.
I have no idea if this forum will catch on. But I think it's worth a try. Authors, let's support each other and find out.

Like an Author, Help an Author!
I was honored to help a fellow author, Andrew Peloquin, with his online launch of his book, The Last Bucelarii (Book 1): Blade of the Destroyer. He has a Facebook event that is ongoing through the weekend, and I was able to post a few comments and promotions on his behalf. That connection was sealed last weekend when I met Andy at the Local Author Meet & Greet at Mysterious Galaxy bookstore last weekend. E-mails were exchanged by the bookstore manager and many a writer. My getting to know Andy started with me Liking his Facebook page.
Generally, I'm not an avid fan of social media. I'd rather spend my valuable and sparse time working on my next book or writing project. But I have come to accept the value of connecting with others via Facebook or Twitter. Some of the more active Friends or Followers I have I actually look forward to conversing or writing with. A small handful have even bought my book. Which brings me to my ext point: success for writers does mean reaching beyond our small networks to broader ones, which can only be had through social media. Yes, that means generating Likes. And having retweets. Reviews. All of it. Whether we like it or not as writers, it's necessary. So why not have some fun with it?

An awesome mention of me and my book in the newspaper!
Woo-hoo! When God closes a door he opens a window! Although my book reading for this past Sunday was canceled, I opened my laptop a few days ago to find that a very good article in La Jolla Light mentioned my book, "Sons of Chenia":

Plus a big shout out to my friends at Toastmasters of La Jolla, especially Melanie Klinghoffer and Prabhu Kandasamy, who were highlighted for their recent accomplishments. Way to go!
