Daphne is the author of This Was Not the Plan , about the collision of three women's lives at an abortion clinic. Bestselling author Tom Perrotta says "Daphne Uviller is a shrewd and compassionate writer, able to imagine a wide variety of intersecting lives and outlooks, and find humor in even the darkest moments.”

Daphne is also the author of Super in the City , Hotel No Tell , and Wife of the Day, all featuring hapless, lovable heroine Zephyr Zuckerman navigating life and its mysteries in Greenwich Village.

Bestselling writer Elizabeth Gilbert ( Eat, Pray, Love ) called Super in the City "intelligent candy."

Publishers Weekly called Hotel No Tell a "refreshing, smart caper novel [that] will appeal to anyone who loves we

I'm an open book, so to speak. I think that's why I write mysteries -- I look at my even-keeled, well-adjusted life and automatically imagine the dark paths it COULD have followed. Never thought about that until this very moment, but perhaps my novels are one big way of expressing my gratitude for my (non-mysterious) life. (less)

Daphne Uviller Okay, I'm finally determined to make better use of Goodreads -- as a reader, more than as a writer. After a lifetime of reading, because my brain is a sieve, I have trouble recalling even those books that made the biggest impressions on me. Sometimes I can't remember the two hundred plus books I've reviewed. I won't try to list the thousands of books in my past, but going forward, I hope to keep a record here.
This is as much a note to myself as to anyone who cares to read this!

Richard Hi, Daph --

It's the end of semester, and in addition to term papers and finals (or because of them), I'm reading trash: Michael B. Parker, stuff like that. Also Best Science Essays of 2009; I like that stuff. Also working my way through the novels of Patrick O'Brian, which I find soothing. Also a new book by Amanda Hesser of food essays she edited when she was at the Times, which I'm reviewing.
