J.R. Wirth's Blog: Thoughtfulness is key

There is a lot of madness in our cultural and political landscape that can create adverse effects on us all, including anxiety, despair, and disillusionment. This is particularly true when we feel that we have no control over what's going on around us. Well, we can always escape into a "goodread" that can give us some peace, only if it's momentary... though a great book can be much more than a momentary distraction! I hope mine can be that for you. If not, there is something out there that will be!

If one is full of hate and criticism of others, they need to look inwardly and fix the pain, sorrow, and self-loathing. There you will find love; may that journey be through spirituality--Christianity--or therapy, it will be at times difficult, at other times extremely rewarding, culminating in a new, more hopeful view of life!

From one page to the next, you are never sure what to expect and each chapter takes you through a fascinating look at the fears faced by many on this well celebrated and usually enjoyable holiday. I'm not so sure about that anymore. Fast paced and original, this tale is sure to delight all horror fans!
This book stayed on my mind for ages afterwards. I will never be able to look at Halloween in the same way again!

J.R. Wirth’s Destiny's Lot is a marvelous romp through the improbable and unbelievable all under the auspices of a Saturday Halloween. I loved how everything, just about from the moment he leaves his house, turns darkly ominous and foreboding. First, there’s the hot girl, Debbie, who seems to have an appetite for blood and the strange “odd” man who lets JR cut his lawn. Everything begins to get even more intense when the kids are all dressed and ready to trick-or-treat, and JR is counting the minutes until his date with Destiny. Wirth’s characters are well-defined, particularly JR’s siblings, and this plot is zany and filled with Halloween atmosphere and malign goodness. Destiny's Lot will get you in the mood for Halloween for sure; it’s most highly recommended.
