Carnival. The Circus. Our fascination in them never wanes.

Violet runs. Away from her abusive step-father, away from society’s expectations—and if that means joining the circus—that seems like freedom.
Many Somethings lurk in St. Simon’s forest-swamps. The Gullah people speak in hushed tones of the ancient hag controlling the traveling circus. A woman who runs like a deer, vaults like a stag—despite her wrinkles and deformed, aged joints.
Children seem to vanish when the circus arrives. Violet has heard the not-quite- human cries from the circus cages, and is determined to find the answer—no matter the cost.
The Hag is strangely familiar…and calls to her. And she is compelled to answer.
The author, Brynn Chapman, has worked in a plastic surgeon’s office, frequented surgeries, dissected cadavers and toured asylums.
She's worked in neurology, and in locked psychiatric wards. She is in medicine by day.
