Dress Rehearsal for Life
(Keys to Earthly Practice for Heaven’s Main Stage)
Life’s journey flows with zigzags and turns in preparation for the ultimate destination – heaven. It is a dress rehearsal for the that main stage. For many years as a music minister I walked choirs through that final rehearsal – the dress-up to the performance. Reflecting on those times, I see existing parallels that sheds light on getting ready for eternity.
Consider these truths that can be applied to our lives. Dress rehearsal is:
• Putting the final touches on the music before the ultimate performance. (Truth: Life is the process of God putting the final touches on our lives (becoming like Jesus) for eternity.)
• Probably prone to several mishaps – few ever go perfect.(Truth: Life has its bumps in the road. Expect things to go wrong.)
• Presenting the music in the exact way we would like the final performance to take place. (Truth: Life’s journey is allowing God to mold us into the likeness of His son Jesus so that we will be ready to face eternity – as complete as possible to face the music of heaven.
• Performing in dress costumes that will be worn in the final presentation. (Truth: We put on the whole armor of God in this life – covered by the blood of Christ as we enter heaven’s portals.)
• Predicated on others doing their part in the supporting cast. (Truth: Life’s journey fully prepares us for heaven when others assist in our passage.)
