I know I personally go through long periods when if I don't write anything creatively, it is harder to get back into the groove again, even if I have a great idea. Jane Espenson does "writing sprints" on Twitter in which she challenges her followers to set aside an hour at a time to just write straight through, no distractions, no concerns about if what you're writing will need a lot of editing later. There are no parameters for what you can write; as long as you're writing something, you're keeping the juices flowing. I think what she does is key in this day and age of constant distractions. In fact, I'd take it a step farther. While Jane says to simply keep writing for the hour, I would suggest sitting at a cafe or in a park, where you can get inspiration by people-watching, and absolutely, definitely turning off your WiFi so you're not tempted to get through mini writer's block periods by checking email or social media.(less)

It is something I originally wrote as a television pilot, then adapted for the web. However, I think it may be best suited as a novel because there is much more room to play with the inner workings, thoughts, and motivations of characters.

UPDATED: I am a television features editor at Variety, covering new show launches, award season, anniversaries and everything in between.(less)
