Meet the Starship Valkyrie
Now that you’ve met the crew of the Valkyrie, let’s talk about the ship herself. The Valkyrie is not her original name, and in fact, at the time of this novel, the ship is well over a hundred years old. She was nothing but a wreck when Nathan and Simon found her, but Simon, the engineer, managed to restore the ship back into service. Even so, the Valkyrie held more secrets than any of...

Meet the Crew of the Valkyrie
The beginning of any story idea starts with the most essential element to a novel, the characters. Characters are the essentia of a novel. It is through the characters that readers experience the story the author has created. I will spend much time on characters, as I did with my science-fiction novel, Heart of the Valkyrie. The idea for my novel came from a desire to create a space opera that had...

The Kingdom of Almar
The Kingdom of Almar is the setting for the novel, Dragonblood Throne: Legacy. Almar is a land that once was controlled by several dark sorcerers and necromancers, who enslaved the people of the land and battled each other for domination. It was into this land that a group of beings known as dragonblood came and in their compassion for the people, they warred against the black magicians and...

Lights, Camera, Action!
The art of writing a good action scene requires a lot more than I’d ever expected when I first began writing in 2014. I’ve learned a lot since that time, and now I feel writing action scenes is perhaps one of my better abilities when it comes to writing. So how do I come up with a good action scene? I’ll tell you, and at the end of this article I’ll share a scene from one...

The Act of Writing
There are times I wonder if I am actually creating a story, or if the story is creating me. Is this tale my creation? Or do I actually belong to the tale? Does an author create, or merely chronicle? Perhaps this all depends upon the author themselves, but for me, I tend to think of it in terms of just being a chronicler for the characters and their story. As I’d noted in an earlier post...

A Whisper in the Shadows
Officially, my second novel A Whisper in the Shadows, which began the Rangers of Laerean a series, featured two main characters, though it was the Ranger Baric that was featured throughout the initial trilogy. Yet, without the second character, Baric’s story would never have been told. The second character that also appears throughout the trilogy was a female assassin named Whisper.

In the Beginning
In the beginning was a blank sheet of paper. This is how a fiction novel starts. Nothing there, only ideas in the author’s head and a slew of notes. But before the story is told, there is nothing. That’s what I had when I sat down to begin writing my very first novel, which I had titled Dragon Rising. Of course, that was in 2014, and today it has gone through a complete re-write and is...

Building a Fantasy World
As a Fantasy author and lover of many epic fantasy series (like The Lord of the Rings) and also a fan of role-play gaming, I’ve always had a fascination for world-building. Building a fantasy world can involve very little, or quite a lot, depending on how you approach it and what you want to do with it. Details can be scarce, or prolific. With my gaming experience in the past, I only had to...

Rangers of Laerean Series
The Rangers of Laerean series was born from an idea I had about a story for a character that my brother and I had created many years ago for a comic book. There were actually three characters created for that comic, but the one that always stuck with me was the ranger/warrior Baric. Perhaps he was the person I’d always wanted to be, or was my ideal image of a true hero. I’m not sure...

A New Summer Garden

A crime drama.
Sam was a down and almost out, with little prospect for the future when he meets Rachelle, the beautiful wife of the philanderous Peter, the kingpin of an international criminal business empire.
When Peter catches Sam ‘in flagrante’ with Rachelle, he ensures Sam’s simple life becomes complicated.
What happens next takes Sam on a surreal path, where the only plausible outcome is for Sam to end up in prison o...
