Paul studied history, education, international affairs and literary journalism at the Universities of Cardiff, Oxford and Hong Kong. He is from southern England and lived in the jungled fringes of Hong Kong from 2011-18. He now lives on Australia's Gold Coast.

Paul writes freelance journalism for the Sydney Morning Herald, Canberra Times and South China Morning Post. He and his son run the hit family podcast series, Dad & Me Love History (see https://www.dadandmelovehistory.com/).
