Charles Olton earned his BA degree from Wesleyan University and his PhD degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He is the author of Artisans for Independence (Syracuse University Press) and numerous articles about Philadelphia during the American Revolution. He has served as Dean of the Faculty at Barnard College, Dean of Parsons School of Design, and President of the League of American Orchestras.

Mr. Olton's new book, Heroic Vision, explores a unique and powerful relationship between fine artists and politicians that flourished between 1760 and 1800.
