Prudy Grimes grew up skiing in Michigan, Colorado and Canada. She received an MFA in Fiction Writing from the University of Pittsburgh where she taught writing for many years--long enough to realize she'd rather work on her own writing than read student stories. Her stories and essays have appeared in North American Revew, Third Coast, Other Voices, Rattle, and other literary journals.

A long, snowy road

Four years ago, in the winter of 2010/2011, my husband and I stayed for several months in a rented house in Truckee, CA. Early one morning in April 2011 we were out skiing at Squaw Valley in some deep off-piste snow, when he fell.
