CENSORSHIP, they cried.
A short entry on the apparent storm brewing here over what people perceive as Goodreads censorship.
It seems they are deleting book reviews that, rather than review the book, are attacking the author.
Yes, you have a right to express this, and I think most of us can easily see that it's not a real review, but an attack, without Goodreads deciding for us.
BUT.
The fact remains that this is GOODREADS' site. Under THEIR guidelines. We use it for free. As such, they make the rules.
Many people of the 'net do not seem to understand this most of the time. If you wish to rant and rave about someone you've never even met, there are many places for you to do this, including your own blogs, facebooks, twitters, etc. etc. There are much more important things to be up in arms about.
I do have, before I end this, one question I'd love the people crying foul to ask themselves:
If an author defended themselves to you, and it turned ugly, would you defend their right to do so, or go on your merry way when Goodreads deleted that, too?
