Always great to meet someone who's into crime thrillers and science fiction - my two favourite genre both as a reader and writer. I'd have loved to attend the speculative fiction conference in Denver but it's just too short notice, I'm teaching and I'm skint. I'll have to make do with UPC in Barcelona (much nearer) in December, where my entry is a cheery story about a telepathic fugative (former remote viewer that the state tried to kill) holding a hooker and her punter hostage in a Birmingham towerblock on a run down estate and trying to convince the cop negotiator he isn't mad.
One slight problem with regard to Sierra Waters (with which I'm not familiar) Why would anyone want to save Socrates when he conspired with the Spartans against Athenian democracy. You are aware that both Socrates and Plato wanted to ban creative writing, aren't you, in their crummy "utopia" that they called "The Republic?" The Sophists were the guys and Aristotle, well, he's still written the best book on movie script writing!
