I have always loved history and was drawn to the tale of the Lusitania because I was fascinated by the cataclysm of elegant Edwardian society caused by the brutal warfare the industrial success of that society made possible. My passion for research and discovery has taken me to the numerous historical sites that appear in the book.

London has been my home since 2000 and I have divided my investment banking and asset management career between New York and London. I wrote L U S I T A N I A R. E. This eventually became more permanent as a giant bulletin board timeline with coloured yarn marking the progress of each character from 1911 to 1915. This provided impetus to the actual writing process, as I had already invested so much time in the creative process of crafting the story before a single word was put to paper. (less)

For me it was exciting to discover a web of potentially inter-related true facts about my subject, and then weave them together with fictional elements. Far from inhibiting my creativity, the objective of remaining within the envelope of the true facts spurred me to think creatively about how to bring it all together. This even applied to instances where I had to rewrite part of my book to reflect a fact that came to my attention after the initial drafting. (less)

Judges remark about Lusitania R.E.X

Jim Bencivenga, a retired book critic at The Christian Science Monitor, wrote of Lusitania R.E.X:

"Were it not of American origin, 'Lusitania R.E.X', by Greg Taylor, is a candidate for a BBC Masterpiece series.

"Most enjoyable are descriptions and details of the luxury ship itself. From boilers to horse stables to elevators to paneled suites puts me on board, freeing the imagination with the rhythm Read more of this blog post »
