She has been a professor at universities in Florida, California, and Texas across 20 years, and has contributed to NPR, PBS, Psychology Today, and numerous other outlets, podcasts and videos. How many first dates does it take? I recently saw a New York Times piece called “40 First Dates and Still Searching.” The lead-in described a man investing in pricey matchmaking services as he searched for The One, and asked: Would it help him find love?

My first thought was: Maybe, but probably not. For two reasons.
