Change

Molly & Me - 1968

As conditions change, all life, especially mankind, in this third density must change     in order to survive. Depending on your point of view, the change may be considered progression, regression, or transgression.

The theme of “Metal Horses” is change. (It’s now in the hands of the editor.)

SORRY

I missed last week. Did anybody miss me?  Did anybody care?

I was busy editing. I find that thinking, imagining, and creating is fun. But editing what I’ve written in order to toss out the chaff, rewrite, subtract and add is hard work. You see, I already know the story, so it becomes boring, but a necessary procedure. I feel like a teacher correcting an exam. It’s hard work. I know the characters. I’ve worked with them for a year or more. I love them, so I don’t want to change them. To do so is like losing a lover or a friend. However, the well told lie must be precise. So, I carry on regardless.

Better Late Than Never

photo

is an old adage. Not always true. Sometimes Better late AND never is better. Imagine the person who had a ticket for a voyage on the Titanic but was too late getting to the dock or the guy that missed the ill-fated trip of the Hindenberg Blimp. Don’t be upset because you’re late. The universe will unfold as it should. Relax. Bend in the wind lest you break. “The early bird gets the worm but it’s the second mouse that gets the cheese.” – Steven Wright. What do you expect from me? For years I’ve intended to join the procrastinators club but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Beginning and Ending

photo

I find that one of the most difficult things in writing fiction is the beginning and the ending. The beginning should hook the reader and the ending should have the problems resolved for the protagonist and satisfy the reader. I’ve been told that to begin with “It was a dark and stormy night.” and to end with “It was all a dream.” is not good enough. I don’t know why. I know that to begin with “Once upon a time” and to end with “They lived happily ever after.” worked very well for a time. Anyone have any suggestions? Anyhow “Metal Horses” will begin with dialogue, “Little fuck drip, no good for nuttin.” I’ll not tell you the ending, you’ll have to read the book.

Sunday nights

photo

are like the calm before the storm. The storm being Monday mornings, but like the song says, “Storms Never Last.” Speaking of storms, here’s another short excerpt from “Metal Horses.”(It continued to get darker as if the light was running as fast as it could from the coming barrage. Lightening flashes and thunder crashes were brighter and louder and closer together as if in some cosmic square dance like grab your partner and swing. The wind and rain came like a burst from a gigantic hose nozzle held by a God trying to wash the surface of the earth clean of all sin. Every exposed hair on every man and horse stood up straight as each felt a tingling throughout their body. It struck.)
