Hi, I'm Sandy Vaile, founder of Fearless Prose where we empower authors to write novels they are proud to share with the world (and which actually get noticed by agents, publishers and readers).

I'm a motorbike-riding daredevil who isn’t content with a story unless there’s a courageous heroine and a dead body. Naturally, I'm a voracious reader who loves speed and adventure.

Home is amongst the vineyards in South Australia with my family and a rambunctious Hungarian Vizsla dog. I'm a part-time quality coordinator (read list making word nerd) and in my spare time I enjoy motorbike riding, cooking (read eating) decadent desserts, and devising horrible things to do to my fictional characters.

Sometimes there is just too much happening in our life for our imagination to prosper. That still doesn't mean you can't write. Even just diarising what's happening to you, or blogging is writing. You don't always have to be working on a full length novel.(less)

Explore Different Facets of Your Characters

Picture Purpose The purpose of this exercise is to develop a deeper understanding of non-Point of View (POV) and Point of View characters.

Even though you might not use what you've written in your story, it will open your eyes to the desires, motivations, fears and idiosyncrasies of secondary characters, which enables you to write more realistic friends, colleagues, family members and villains.

A delightfully chaotic romp

This light-hearted romance left me with a smile at all the witty one-liners and fun situations.

“Treat backstory like a pungent spice. I say this to encourage you to picture a jalapeno pepper that can set your mouth on fire, every time you even think about adding backstory into your book.

What you need is subtlety.”
Sandy Vaile

“Backstory is like a flavour you can’t quite pick, lurking in the layers of a curry. You know it’s there and it enhances the flavour, but it’s intangible and fleeting. Use it sparingly!”
Sandy Vaile

“Suspense doesn’t always have to be about physical danger. Making the reader worry is a universal concept that can be applied to any story.”
Sandy Vaile
