THE PROVING GROUND Is Out Now In The USA, Canada, The UK, Ireland, Australia, & New Zealand

Michael Connelly & The Proving Ground

Mickey Haller turns to public interest litigation, filing a civil lawsuit against an artificial intelligence company whose chatbot told a sixteen-year-old boy that it was okay for him to kill his ex-girlfriend for her disloyalty. Representing the victim’s family, Mickey’s case explores the mostly unregulated and exploding AI business and the lack of training guardrails. Along the way he joins up with a journalist named Jack McEvoy, who wants to be a fly on the wall during the trial in order to write a book about it. But Mickey puts him to work going through the mountain of printed discovery materials in the case. The case is fraught with danger because billions are at stake.

Rave Reviews For THE PROVING GROUND

The Proving Ground by Michael Connelly

“One of the best yet from best-selling author Connelly.”
— Booklist * starred review

“Michael Connelly writes his bestselling novels in real time, setting them in the year they’re published. His latest, “The Proving Ground,” seems so ripped from the headlines it feels as if he’s writing it as you read it.”
— Colette Bancroft, Tampa Bay Times

“Engrossing… Among Connelly’s strengths: weaving current issues into his superb plots and making even the most complicated subjects understandable. One can’t get more timely than AI, nor more complex. …Connelly’s precise look at the law and his return to Mickey Haller are most welcome.”
— Oline Cogdill, South Florida Sun-Sentinel

The Proving Ground is the most relevant and compelling legal thriller of the decade, and Michael Connelly proves once again that nobody captures courtroom drama and the high-wire act of justice quite like him.”
— Ryan Steck, The Real Book Spy

The Bosch universe at Amazon continues to expand with a prequel series for MGM+, Bosch: Start of Watch, starring Cameron Monaghan (Shameless) and Omari Hardwick (Power). The premium linear channel and streaming service has greenlighted the offshoot which explores the origin story of Michael Connelly’s detective Harry Bosch, portrayed by Titus Welliver on the original Bosch series and its sequel Bosch: Legacy.

Monaghan will take over the role, playing rookie cop Harry Bosch, with Hardwick portraying his training officer, police veteran Eli Bridges, a new character not in the book mythology. There is no direct source material for Start of Watch since Connelly’s novels do not include a Bosch prequel, though bits and pieces from Harry’s early years are planted in various books in the universe, with Connelly calling the prequel “uncharted character territory.”
