Lori Ericson was born in Michigan and moved to Arkansas as a young girl. Her father was in the cemetery business and brought the family to Russellville, Arkansas, where they lived in a home on the cemetery grounds. A year later he bought a cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where Ericson lived out her teenage years. She earned a journalism and English degree from the University of Arkansas, but spent several years managing her father’s cemetery after he became ill. She then used her degree and worked as a newspaper reporter for nearly twenty years, winning a number of journalism awards all under the byline Lori Harrison-Stone.
