Strange Stories from Odd Folx
Hi there!
It’s been a while since the last episode, but that’s because…well, everything, really. But I’m stubborn and refuse to drop things, I always get them done
#so today, in a cosy* new episode of Strange Stories from Odd Folx, Trixie, back by popular demand from season 1, has a ghost who needs help to move on from trying to look after her son.
* Not actually sarcasm this time, it really is quite sweet
Enjoy! And if you do, please share!
(And consider dropping so...

Storytime: Priorities
CW: Swearing.
“I’m sorry, you’re what?”
Jade looked sideways at Elsie, “We’re dating. For like 8 months now. We figured it was time to tell you all.”
In the corner of a small restaurant, 7 people crowd around a table. Food is steaming, sending up good smells, but has suddenly been forgotten.
Jade’s mother, Nikki; father, Bruce; and stepdad, Tom, sit on one side, continuing their seemingly endless quest to blend the family whether their kids want to or not (they don’t, that’s why none...

Sunday Sundries: Snake Charming [book review]
Hi folks, welcome back to Sunday Sundries where I talk about whatever’s on my mind. Today, I’ve got a book review for you: Snake Charming by Genevieve McCluer.
Full disclosure: I received Snake Charming as a digital ARC from the publisher.
I’ve read, and reviewed, McCluer before (in fact if you pick it up you’ll see part of my Cold Blood review used in there), and I’ve been waiting to read this one as it sounded very much up my street.

Snake Charming follows Freddie: an 800+ year old...

Sunday Sundries: CPAP
Hi folks, welcome back to Sunday Sundries, where I talk about whatever’s on my mind!
Today, let’s talk CPAP machines.
CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, and it uses a machine and a face mask or nasal pillows to deliver continuous oxygen to the lungs, which helps solve the issues causes by Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
OSA is what happens when the relaxation of the muscles in sleep causes the tongue to relax too much, and fall back to obstruct the airway. This causes s...

Storytime: Chaos (Blur #19 – Final!)
Dyl and Wyn swung their heads around, trying to let their mounted cameras take in everything. To them, it was a chaotic kaleidoscope of green and black, red and orange; the sounds of battle booming and roaring in their ears.
On the one hand, their plan to take on the creatures was a non-starter as, dazzled by the lights, they couldn’t see what they were attacking; and hanging around this area meant danger, if anything spotted them first.
Even Vuuk, with its enhanced eyes, couldn’t make out...

Sunday Sundries: Trans Day of We Still Exist!
Hello and welcome back to Sunday Sundries, where I talk about whatever’s on my mind.
Yes I’ve had a break, I’ve been in a struggling loop so I took some time away. But today seems like an appropriate day to come back so, here I am!
Transgender Day of Visibility is a yearly day where we trans folk get to celebrate being ourselves. We exist, despite all the efforts to eradicate us. We’re here. We’ve always been here. And we’re allowed to feel joy about it.

If you’re a trans person who ...

Storytime: Meeting the Managers (Blur 18)
Dyl, Wyn and Vuuk moved as quickly as they could through the crumbling streets. The roiling appendages still brushed across the landscape, but their initial spread had lessened, and though still dangerous, the ruined city could be navigated.
Climbing over a fallen, melted building, the team spotted the area they were looking for.
It was clear: no melting, no appendages, just a handful of creatures, mostly the large, bronze bruisers, milling about.
It almost looked incidental. But set ag...

Sunday Sundries – Other People’s Work
Hi folks, welcome back to Sunday Sundries, where I talk about whatever’s on my mind.
First, thanks for your patience – sometimes my brain decides it needs a shutdown, cache clear and reboot, and I don’t get any warning, hence the mini hiatus.
Today, I’m talking about how we talk about other people’s work.
First, go read this from my friend Tennyson E. Stead – Do we want to be professional creators, or amateur critics? Social media has become a platform for thought leaders and conten...

Sunday Sundries: Doctor Who – A New Love Affair pt.3
Hi folks, welcome back to Sunday Sundries! We’ve made it to the last Doctor Who 2023 post – The Church on Ruby Road. The earlier posts are here and here.
It’s Christmas, and a mysterious figure, cloaked against the snow, leaves a small bundle on a church step. You’d be forgiven for picturing this as the origin of a Dickens character, but nope, it’s 2004, and the tiny bundle grows up to be Ruby Sunday (yes she sounds like a song title). She was fortunate to be fostered by Carla, who then adopt...

Storytime: Enemies (Blur #17)
Oooh, so how’s everything going now the second group of overpowered interdimensional beings have arrived?!?
Janice and the techs stared at the screens, as the earth continued to shake, and both sets of monsters continued to emerge. The Handlers were inundated with messages from their people, panicked demands to know what was happening filled the room, and every eye turned to Janice.
Taking a deep breath, she opened a general channel, speaking to all of the humans at once, and to some of th...
