“Tangled Web” – A novella.
My novella, “Tangled Web” will be out on May 18th. It’s up for pre-order now if you are interested.
This novella was never meant to be a novella on it’s own. Originally it was written in hopes of being part of Dreamspinner’s “Starstruck” Anthology, however the story ran too long. DSP decided that they wanted to release it as a novella. I’ve had a few reviews so far and while most are good, there is always that one bad one that lingers in your mind. The issue the reader had was that the story was too short. One person rated it low due to no love scenes. Sometimes I think I need to re-think my new found love of writing.

Locksley’s Christmas Story
Today I wrote a children’s book for Locksley. He told me that he “wished he could go with Jack (his elf on the shelve) to the North Pole one night”. So I thought I would write a story letting him do just that. I’m attaching it here. Let me know if you guys like the concept. I’m thinking about doing this for people that are interested for Christmas presents. :) *this will be printed in color and bound together.

Anne Barwell’s “Family and Reflection”
Hi Everyone!
Today, I’m hosting the lovely Anne Barwell on my blog and she’s here to tell us all about her new release Family and Reflection. I hope you enjoy! :)
Stronger Together Than Apart
Thanks, Shirley, for hosting me.
One of the reasons I love writing the guys from The Sleepless City—the urban fantasy series which is a joint project between myself and Elizabeth Noble—is that their personalities and skills complement each other. In working together they bring a range of skills and life experience to solve supernatural related crimes in the fictional city of Flint, Ohio.
Vampires Declan and Jonas Forge have known each other the longest—since the early 1800s—with Simon Hawthorne meeting them shortly after he was turned in 1916. Although Declan doesn’t live in Flint all the time like his friends, he still visits every ten years or so and becomes involved in their cases.
Forge works in law enforcement and has a background as a soldier. Declan was a trapper— amongst other things—and is now a skilled conman and cat burglar. Simon now teaches 20th Century history at Flint University, but fought as a British soldier in WW1.
Unlike Declan, Forge and Simon who are vampires, Lucas Coate is a werewolf and works as Flint’s coroner. He met Simon and Forge—two of the vampires he shares Boggs’s Castle with—ten years ago. Lucas helped them to solve the case they were working on, and later helped with others too, and it didn’t take long before he became a member of their team.
The newest members of the team are Ben Leyton—Simon’s human soul mate—and vampire Blair Turner, an experienced hacker. Being human, Ben isn’t affected by silver like the rest of the group, and offers fresh perspective. Blair helped them from a distance before coming to Flint, soul bonding with Forge, and becoming a part of their team.
The other member of their team is Boggs, the ghost who haunts Boggs’ Castle where they live. He can only be seen by supernaturals, with a few exceptions to that rule.
Although each of them brings a different range of skills and perspective to the team, it is the way in which they work together that makes them such an effective team.
However, the case in Family and Reflection becomes personal very quickly and time is running out. For Lucas and Declan, in particular, everything is about to change.
Family and Reflection
Book 3 of The Sleepless City, Sequel to Electric Candle
For as long as Lucas Coate can remember, werewolves have been taught to mistrust vampires. Lucas is an exception—he has close friends who are vampires. The werewolf pack in Flint—and their leader, Jacob Coate—have made it clear that Lucas’s association with vampires is barely tolerated, and another transgression will be his last. When Lucas finds out about the plague of werewolf deaths in the area, he wants to help even though his own life may already be in danger.
Declan has been away from Flint for ten years, but he isn’t surprised to learn that the internal politics of the Supernatural Council haven’t changed for the better. When a series of burglaries hit close to home soon after he arrives, Declan—a vampire and professional thief—is their prime suspect, although for once, he isn’t responsible. With the council keeping secrets, no one is safe. Time is running out, and for Lucas and Declan, everything is about to change.

Excerpt:
Declan turned the page of his book, read the first paragraph, then shook his head. He wasn’t sure why he’d bothered, as he couldn’t for the life of him remember what had happened on the previous page, let alone in the last few chapters. He closed the book with a thump, got up from the table, went over to the fridge, and opened it.
He wasn’t hungry, but if he had been, the mold-covered plate on one of the shelves would have put him off whatever else had taken his fancy. Someone really needed to have a word with Lucas about leaving his science experiments to breed. Declan lifted the plate somewhat cautiously and sniffed it, then wished he hadn’t. City coroner or not, this wasn’t… normal. Normal people cleaned out their leftovers before they got the chance to become strange new life forms.
Even if, in this case, his definition of normal was a werewolf.
But, despite his reaction, Declan couldn’t bring himself to throw the—whatever it was—away. To him it was disgusting, but to Lucas it might be some new discovery crucial to whatever he was currently working on. And Declan didn’t want to upset Lucas. In the short time they’d known each other, he’d become quite fond of Lucas, and enjoyed the time they spent together.
Declan sighed. He returned the offending thing to its previous resting place, ignoring the visions of reanimated zombie leftovers creeping up the stairs to attack him in the middle of the night, and instead got a wineglass out of the cupboard. He poured himself a decent-sized portion of his favorite red beverage and settled back down on the chair he’d recently vacated. As much as he enjoyed a good vintage wine, there were times when one had to quench one’s other thirsts. He sniffed the glass and savored the aroma before swallowing.
Hmm, not bad. It was amazing the standard of blood available to purchase through the right sources. It made it so much easier to feed than it used to be, and less messy too.
He heard the light step on the stairs and human heartbeat long before Ben reached the kitchen and stood awkwardly in the doorway.
“Hello, Ben,” Declan said. “Don’t worry, you’re not disturbing me.”
“If you’re sure?” Ben Leyton ran one hand through his thick dark hair. He looked tired. “I couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’d make a Milo and see if that helps.”
“I heard Simon having a nightmare earlier. He never did sleep well on anniversaries.” He’d known Simon Hawthorne a long time; Jonas Forge had introduced them shortly after Simon had been turned. Declan had also helped Simon through a dark part of his life, triggered by the events he suspected had prompted this particular nightmare, given the time of year. “I also don’t mind if you turn on the light.”
Although Declan didn’t need much light to see, especially with the full moon casting its glow into the room, Ben would appreciate more illumination.
“Yeah, well, they’re the worst times for most people, I guess.” Ben flicked on the light switch before walking across the kitchen. He filled the kettle and put it on to boil before reaching into the cupboard and bringing down a green can. “Do you want some? It’s a chocolate drink.”
“Thank you but no.” Declan indicated the glass in front of him.
The loud howl almost made him jump, and only years of practiced self-control stopped him. Even so, Declan’s hairs stood on end on the back of his neck, and the howl sent a shiver through him.
Lucas howled again. Frustration, anger, and loss all rolled into a sound that was pure wolf.
Declan knocked his glass over, spilling its contents. Without thinking, he moved at vampire speed, catching what was left of the blood in his palm and drinking deeply.
The glass fell to the floor, smashing into tiny pieces. He ignored it and finished the blood, then wiped the back of his hand across his mouth. A low growl escaped his lips. He knew his eyes were completely green. They tended to do that when his fangs extended.
When he looked up, Ben was staring at him, his eyes wide. “I’ll clean up the mess, shall I?” Ben said hurriedly, already heading for the broom.
“Don’t worry,” Declan said. “I’ll do it. Make your chocolate drink, mon ami. It’s my mess, so my responsibility, yes?”
Bio:
Anne Barwell lives in Wellington, New Zealand. She shares her home with two cats who are convinced that the house is run to suit them; this is an ongoing “discussion,” and to date it appears as though the cats may be winning.
In 2008 she completed her conjoint BA in English Literature and Music/Bachelor of Teaching. She has worked as a music teacher, a primary school teacher, and now works in a library. She is a member of the Upper Hutt Science Fiction Club and plays violin for Hutt Valley Orchestra.
She is an avid reader across a wide range of genres and a watcher of far too many TV series and movies, although it can be argued that there is no such thing as “too many.” These, of course, are best enjoyed with a decent cup of tea and further the continuing argument that the concept of “spare time” is really just a myth.
Anne’s books have twice received honorable mentions and twice reached the finals in the Rainbow Awards.

A thank you
Hi Everyone!
It’s been a while and I wanted to say thank you. Illusions sold fairly well for a first time author and first time book. I want to thank every single one of you that purchased the book. I appreciate you more than I can say and I hope you enjoyed the boys as much as I enjoyed writing them.
Book number two, Demons is still in submission so I have no idea if it will be picked up to be published or not. But if not, I may self-published, if I can figure out how. :)
Book number three, -to be named- has Ryan (from Illusions) traveling to Germany and falling in love. This one is slow moving for me because I have so much going on at the moment, I rarely find time to just write. And when I do, I find myself doing other things…like writing a blog post.
I hope you all are enjoying your week so far and thank you again. :)

~ Excerpt ~
COLE LEANED his long frame against the counter and gave his best killer smile. It was flirtatious and fueled by desperation, since he’d left his wallet on his bureau and needed that double mocha latte like he needed air.
“I’ll pay you tomorrow, I promise.”
“I’ve heard it before.” But Andrew, the owner of the Busy Day Café Cole frequented often, smiled back.
“Yes, however, unlike the other freeloaders, you know I’m good for it.”
“True.” Andrew raised his eyebrows. “Want a biscotti with that?”
“Ahh, bless you! You’re a prince.”
“So I keep on telling John.”
“Leave him for me, and I’ll treat you right. Buy you a castle—”
“In the air? Since you have no money?”
“I’ll let you do me in the glass carriage too.”
“You can stop now. I’m making the drink.”
Andrew, slim and blond, was cute in a boy-next-door sort of way. But they understood their banter was pretend. Andrew had a longtime boyfriend, and Cole, despite his reputation, didn’t cross those lines. He honestly liked Andrew and John. He’d never want to get between them.
Cole took a grateful sip, closing his eyes at the first taste of cream, chocolate, and coffee swirled together on his tongue. “You know I’ll be back tomorrow to even up.”
“I know. You’re a loyal customer.”
Cole thought he’d brought his wallet this time, but no. He’d remembered to leave his housemates and best friends a note about a “family dinner” on Saturday, but forgotten his money. Cole knew his housemates considered him a nag, but somebody had to get them all together to discuss their bills, or they’d be blowing each other off continuously—and not in the fun way.
“I’m loyal to your lattes, for sure.” Cole savored his drink.
“Well, you’re the only guy who usually wants my coffee so late on a hot day anyhow.”
“You wound me, Andrew. Big-time. It wasn’t my charm, after all?”
“Sorry.”
The door to the café jangled as another customer walked inside.
Oh crap, it had to be him.
It wasn’t that Ian Stark was so handsome. His features were far too arrogant for that. His nose was too sharp, his jaw too square, although his mouth was surprisingly lush. But no man who was off-limits should affect him this much.
Ian Stark was Brendan’s boss. He was unapproachable for that reason alone.
Brendan, the youngest of the roommates and Cole’s best friend, was still going to Florida Atlantic University at night, taking his prelaw classes, but he worked in Ian Stark’s fancy law office by day. He wanted to go into criminal law someday and defend the innocent. Cole teased him that there was no more justice left in the world, but Cole knew how important this job and his future were to Brendan.
He and Ian exchanged wary nods.
Cole focused all his attention on his coffee. He didn’t want to look again into Ian’s fierce blue eyes. Once was enough. Dressed in a formal suit and tie that flattered his broad shoulders and trim waist, he wasn’t even sweating. How was that possible? Everything about Ian was cool and sophisticated. Reason number two to stay away from him. Cole preferred his fun uncomplicated.
“Be with you in a moment,” Andrew said, as Ian approached Cole.
“No rush.”
Ian was directly behind him, and Cole felt Ian’s breath tickle the hair on the nape of his neck. Ian’s voice was always a surprise, no matter that Cole had heard him speak a dozen or so times. For a lawyer, his voice was lower and grittier than Cole would expect. It never failed to give him a small jolt.
Andrew gave Cole his biscotti. “How’s work going? Any good barfly stories for me?”
“Not really.” Cole dunked his biscotti into the coffee. “Same old, same old. Nothing much changes around here.”
“How about you, Mr. Stark?” Andrew asked, his tone much more respectful as he addressed him.
Cole noted how Ian Stark inspired formality even from his barista.
“Good. Signed a new client.”
Cole heard the pride in his voice. Since his housemate worked for Ian, Cole knew a lot about his practice. He knew Ian had left some big jazzy firm to create something of his own, building it up one case at a time through sheer will and determination. He wished Brendan didn’t talk about this so much because it only made Cole reluctantly admire Ian.
Unable to simply leave without saying a word to Ian, Cole forced himself to turn. Ian’s gaze pinned him immediately, and Cole swallowed hard.
“Tell Brendan to stop by the bar tonight. When he’s done with work.”
“All right.” Ian’s assessing expression didn’t alter, but a small muscle ticked in his jaw as he stared at Cole. “Maybe I’ll let him go early today.”
“You could try,” Cole said. God, could Ian have a sexier mouth? It wasn’t fair to give a stuffed shirt like Ian a mouth made for kissing. Cole gave a slight shake of his head and then frowned slightly when he realized Ian was still staring. Unlike Cole’s quick appraisal, Ian didn’t even bother to mask his. Ian studied him, head to foot, and Cole went still under his examination, daring only to breathe. It made Cole uneasy. He braced himself to meet Ian’s gaze. What were they discussing? Oh yeah, Brendan.
Cole made his tone brisk. “I doubt Brendan would go.”
“True.” For a moment, Ian’s mouth quirked slightly, as close to a smile as Cole had ever witnessed from him. “Brendan is dedicated.”
“Yeah, he’s dedicated all right.” Cole suppressed a sigh. Reason number three to ignore Ian Stark was the biggest reason of all: Brendan was in love with him.
And that was that. Cole would never pursue it.
With a last, quick glance at Ian, Cole gathered his things and turned away.
“Hang on, just a second.” Ian took his arm. His voice cracked through the small café like a whip.
“What?”
“Why are you always in such a hurry to get away from me?” Ian asked, his eyes shrewd.
“I’m not.” Cole stood there waiting for Ian to release his arm. He didn’t. “You’re going to make me spill my latte.”
“We’ve been doing this little dance for months now. Don’t you think it’s time we stopped?”
Cole lifted his chin. “I don’t know what you mean.” His tone, he hoped, was nonchalant.
Andrew was listening to them with keen interest, and Cole shot Andrew a glare that had him pretend to get busy at his counter. Great, all he needed was this all over town.
“Cole,” Ian said forcefully, clearly expecting Cole to meet his gaze.
He did so, reluctantly, his heart squeezed tight. Cole paused only a moment to take Ian in: his elegant build—solid muscles wrapped in that expensive suit—his unstoppable blue eyes, those mouth-watering lips.
There was an electric moment of silence. Ian’s grip didn’t hurt, but his fingers were curled possessively around Cole’s arm, holding the tight muscles of his bicep. Ian’s expression was questioning, probing, but then it altered. Cole watched his face change, his eyes focused and intent, felt Ian’s fingers holding him, gliding over his skin.
Oh sweet God.The soft slide of Ian’s palm. Cole felt the touch sharply in his entire body, like a deep note, an ache.
Ian’s gaze had an expression Cole had never seen on him, and Ian’s look both thrilled and frightened him. He wanted Ian to keep touching him. Cole wanted to touch back.
Cole tore free. “No.” He stepped back. His tone was way too revealing on that one word, sounding far too desperate and guttural, and Cole caught himself. “I mean—I have to get to work.” He tried for his signature careless smile, but Cole seriously doubted Ian bought the forced grin he managed to produce. He turned away.
This could not happen.
Anybody could pay rent and live someplace, but Cole had wanted a home. He’d always wanted a home. With Marc, Tomas, River, and Brendan, he’d finally found one. As he hurried away, he pushed Ian from his mind. Nobody was worth jeopardizing what he had with his housemates.
Cole neared the door. The trouble was he had to juggle the biscotti and his hot latte in one hand as he fumbled for the handle with his other. He felt a stain of color flag his cheeks. Christ, would the dumb thing turn already? His stupid blush increased as Cole sensed Ian coming up behind him. A trickle of sweat ran down his back.
“Need help?”
“No. I got this.” Cole craned his neck to glower at Ian behind him. “And you’re annoying me.”
“Everybody needs a hobby.” Ian’s mouth slanted upward, his blue eyes taunting Cole.
Cole refused to smile back. They held each other’s gazes for a beat too long before Ian gallantly swung the door open and Cole was able to escape. Ian’s gaze was on his ass, Cole knew. He could feel it until he turned the corner.
I’m simply a challenge to him.
Ian Stark was the kind of guy who liked to win. That was all. Cole understood the type. Hell, it was exactly his type. Cole never wanted to scream in frustration so much as he did every time Ian was near. If only Cole could turn the tables and do his normal thing, he’d be the one pursuing Ian and making him flush.

Getting to know me….
Hi Guys! This is a repost blog where I am doing an interview. :) Since I’m a new author, I thought that I should do the interview so that you all could get to know me a little better.
What was the most challenging part of writing this story? Illusions is my first book, so everything seemed a bit challenging in the beginning. Probably the most difficult thing in this story was finding exactly the right way to end it. I ran through several scenarios in my head before finally deciding on one that I liked. I hope it was the right choice. What are you working on now? My second book Demons was very emotional for me therefore, I want my next novel to be all about fun and fluff with a bit of romance. I have several ideas, I just need to pick one and run with it. Why did you decide to write M/M Romance? I discovered m/m romance when I started watching Queer as Folk about 10 years ago. I fell in love with Brian and Michael and wanted the two of them to have a happily ever after together. However, it wasn’t until I discovered “Chrolli” that I wanted to actually write a love story. “Chrolli” is the story of Christian and Oliver in the German soap opera, “Verbotene Liebe”, which means “Forbidden Love”. I found them one day on You Tube in 2008 and fell in love. When I say that is a beautiful love story, I mean it’s a BEAUTIFUL love story. The entire storyline in on YouTube and it’s subtitled in several languages. It was very popular for a long time. I became friends with Jo Weil (Oliver) as well as the wonderful man who wrote the story, Tom Chroust. After watching that amazing story, all I wanted to do was write my own beautiful love story.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMd1dKqqWRI
What did you enjoy most about writing this story? I’m a big fan of anything Hollywood and I enjoyed sharing some things that I had seen and heard from various people through the years. When I wrote about the studios, I recalled going to Paramount Studios and visiting some of the Roswell cast. A lot of what Skylar has to say is from things I have heard my actor friends say in the past or some of the behind the scenes stories that they have shared. It was a lot of fun for me to write. What’s your writing process like? Are you a plotter, a pantser, or both? I don’t usually plan anything. For example, when I started Illusions, I had no idea that there would be an arsonist involved. That just happened. I started writing the book because I wanted to tell a story about an actor falling in love with non-celebrity person. After a while, the book started to write itself. Honestly, there would be times when I didn’t know, until my fingers started typing, what would happen next. It was all very strange to me, the entire process of Illusions. How did it feel to sign that first contract? It was the most surreal feeling. When I started writing “Illusions”, I had just been laid off from my job of twenty-two years and I was frustrated at the job hunting process. Once I started writing, I quickly realized that it very therapeutic. While it felt great to write and be able to say anything I wanted on paper, I never once thought about the story being published. An author friend of mine suggested that I send it to Dreamspinner. When they accepted the manuscript, I jumped up and down. It was a fantastic feeling. What advice would you give to an aspiring author looking to get published? Being so new, I’m not sure I can give good advice but I can offer the steps that I took. Once you write your book, have it reviewed by several of your friends for grammar, pacing and anything that may need to be added or removed. Once it’s cleaned up, it’s time to pick a publisher. Make sure you submit the manuscript exactly as they asked and then move on to your next book while you wait. That makes the time go a little faster and hopefully, once you hear they want your book, you’ll be well into your second. What are your plans for the future? What more can we look forward to from you? I’ve just submitted my second novel “Demons” to Dreamspinner Press and I’m waiting to hear back if they will publish it or not. Other than that, I’ve been promoting “Illusions” and haven’t had time to start another book but I hope to very soon. What are your five favorite songs and why? 1) Right now, my number one favorite song is Demons by Imagine Dragons. It was my inspiration for the book that I just completed. I feel like everyone has demons that they battle everyday and sometimes it’s easier to just avoid love rather than face down these demons. 2) My second favorite song is The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars. This fan video of Sebastian Stan (who I love) in Kings was my sole inspiration for Skylar in Illusions.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDHamhP6PMk
3) I recently found my second favorite. It’s Take Me to Church by Hozier. I have to say that I don’t completely agree with the song. I believe in Church and God, but I know that there are many so called Christians who use the Church to hide behind their own bigotry. I chose to believe the song is about those particular people. 4) Stay with Me by Sam Smith. I absolutely love everything about this song. Besides the fact Sam’s voice is so beautiful, the words break my heart. “Oh won’t you stay with me, ‘cause you’re all that I need.” I believe he wrote this song for his straight best friend, whom he was in love with. Such a sad, yet beautiful song. 5) I’m Not the Only One – Another Sam Smith song that I’m obsessed with. “You say I’m crazy, ‘cause you don’t think I know what you’ve done.” Another song that is so incredibly sad, because his lover is cheating on him and I can feel Sam’s feelings in all of his songs. That is a gift of a true songwriter. I could go on and on as l love music. I really enjoy the 80’s music, BonJovi, REO Speedwagon, “LoverBoy”, all of those hair bands. They were my favorites. Do you believe in love at first sight? I believe in lust at first sight. I can’t imagine loving someone until I knew more about them. I do think that you can see someone and be very overwhelmed with feelings but again, I think it’s more physical at that point. Name 5 favorite movies. Why? For someone who isn’t really a “fall in love” type of girl, the majority of my five favorite movies are all romantic. Go figure. Notting Hill – This is probably my all time favorite movie. I love the premise; I adore Hugh Grant’s acting and Spike! Who could not love “Spike”. The soundtrack was beautiful…so many things to love about that movie. Latter Days – I adored this movie!! I felt so sorry for Aaron when he was thrown out of the Mormon Church for being gay. This movie touched me in so many ways. I still find myself watching it at least once a year. Love Actually – I’m a huge Colin Firth and Hugh Grant fan so it’s no surprise that this movie is high on my list. I watch it every year, sometimes more than once and it never gets old. Just the love stories, especially the little boy who loves the girl in his class, it’s just so sweet. Life as a House – I love this movie because the story of the man building the house at the same time he was building his relationship with his son was so beautiful to me. Of course, I cried like a baby at the end. Lovely movie. Legends of the Fall – This movie introduced me to Brad Pitt and while I could stop there, I did really enjoy the drama of the three brothers and their father in the wilderness. About Illusions

Soon enough they can’t stay away from each other. Despite hiding their relationship away from the ever-present paparazzi, they’re happy together until a jilted fan joins forces with the arsonist to sabotage their future. EXCERPT (Lead in– Skylar ran into Aiden, who was serving champagne, at the premier party for The Executives. When there’s a fire at the sound stage near Skylar’s, he spots Aiden again. Not having been introduced, he refers to him as “Mr. Champagne”.) “…” refers to edited dialogue for length
***********
It couldn’t be… could it? Skylar looked again to make sure he was not mistaken. This time Skylar saw the flicker of recognition in Mr. Champagne’s eyes before he turned back to continue talking to his chief. As Skylar stood there, trying to decide his next move, he watched Mr. Champagne grab an ax from the side of the truck, put on his helmet, and disappear into the building. That was it. Maybe it was the sheer hotness of that guy just grabbing his ax and walking into a smoke-filled building, or maybe it was the memory of that rock-hard body, but Skylar knew he had to know more about him, fan or not. “…..” Mr. Champagne walked out of the building, which was now almost smoke free, and headed toward the fire engine. As he removed his helmet to wipe the sweat off his face, Sophie knew immediately why Skylar was so interested. It was the hot serving guy she had seen him flirting with at the party. “Is that the guy?” asked Sophie, motioning toward the firefighter. Skylar moved to block her from Mr. Champagne’s view. “Yes, that’s him, and would you please stop being so obvious?” “Are you going to talk to him?” she asked. Getting annoyed at the constant string of questions, Skylar just glared at Sophie and said, “I might. I haven’t decided yet.” Then, motioning toward the soundstage, he said, “But will you please meet me on set? I’ll be there in a second.” “Okay, fine, but I really think you should talk to him.” At Skylar’s second glare she said, “I’m leaving, I’m leaving. See you in a few.” Sophie walked off down to Soundstage 5. “…” Turning back to Mr. Champagne, who looked slightly busy trying to get the hose latched onto the truck, Skylar tried to be patient. But after a few more minutes, Skylar felt he had waited long enough. It’s now or never, he thought as he started toward the fire truck and the sexy fireman. “Hey,” said Skylar as he walked up behind Mr. Champagne. Mr. Champagne turned around. Upon seeing it was Skylar, he said, “Hey,” and then he immediately turned back to his truck to finish tying in the hose. He had no time for the disappearing actor. Okay, what the fuck? Not sure exactly how to take that reaction, but not wanting to back down, Skylar continued, “I saw you a few minutes ago, talking to your fire chief, and I thought that I recognized you. Didn’t you work The Executives premiere party the other night?” Aiden paused for a second, then turned back and replied, “Yeah, that was me.” And then, unable to stop himself, Aiden said, “Although, I must say, I’m surprised you remembered me. If I’m not mistaken, you were more than wasted that night.” “You can say that again,” Skylar agreed. “….” “Yet, I do remember you, so I believe that proves that I did have some clarity that night. But I have to admit, if you introduced yourself to me, your name was lost someplace between six and eight gin and tonics.” Aiden looked at him for a second before responding, “Actually, I didn’t find it necessary to introduce myself. I was just serving champagne to the party guests.” Well, damn! Skylar, a bit taken back by the chill in the fireman’s voice, said, “Okay. I only thought that you might have because in my experience, most fans introduce themselves right away. Forgive me, I didn’t mean to assume something so simple.” Aiden turned all the way around, looked Skylar straight in the eye, and said, “Actually you’re still assuming, if you think I’m a fan. Truth is, until that night, I didn’t know who you were.” He paused before finishing with, “Sorry about that.” Skylar, a bit insulted yet somehow intrigued, stood there for a moment, taking all this new information in. Then he smiled, held out his hand, and quietly said, “No apology needed. Let me introduce myself. My name is Skylar Murphy.” And you are certainly going to know me now.

Guest Post – Shaken Up by Nicole Forcine
Hi Everyone!
Today I have a guest author who is blogging about her new book, Shaken Up. It is available at DreamspinnerPress.com. Please welcome Nicole Forcine. :)
Sometimes, you’ve got to start over. And it can be a time of great growth.
Before the story in Shaken Up begins, main character Tim flees his hometown of Atlanta, GA for the sunny California coast, not for a change of scenery, but to escape one of the darkest and scariest moments of his life. He knows no one and has no connections, nor can he reach out to anyone he knew from back home. The change in itself is daunting. He’s still a sub at heart, but he’s got some healing to do before he can kneel for anyone.
Once the story starts, it’s a couple of years later, and Tim has settled in, is running a business, and most importantly, has found a way to fulfill his needs in a way that keeps him safe and sane. On the surface, he seems as if he had put himself back together just fine. But it took time, years, and there were probably some missteps along the way.
I know that feeling pretty well. In December 2013, I stopped working due to fibromyalgia. Last year was rough without a steady income or even enough to do to fill entire days other than doctor’s appointment after doctor’s appointment after new med after new med. It was depressing, to say the very least.
But, like Tim, I had to settle in and rebuild and make a new life for myself. I started writing again – this very book, to be exact. It took a while, longer than I’m willing to admit, but I did it. And I can call myself a writer, even if it isn’t full-time.
I’d like to think that I was inspired by my own character. I hope he can do the same for someone else who is facing a new start. And if you’re not, I hope you enjoy the ride all the same.
Blurb:
Tim Myers is the flamboyant and overly fastidious owner of the adult shop Little Earthquakes. In his spare time, he moonlights as a sub for his friend’s BDSM classes, and while he’d love to find a Dom to cater to his domestic servitude kink, he’s wary of exposing his body and his heart. When Jae Seong comes into Tim’s shop and asks him for help with a wax play demo, Tim is turned off by the idea. Jae is nothing if not persistent, though. He’s a skilled Dom and soon finds out why Tim is so protective of his body, his neck, and his heart. Over a series of play dates, the two grow close, and it dawns on Tim that he might be looking at a match made for collaring.
