The BLOG Tour de Force

To tour or not to tour? That is my question as I pursue lucrative marketing strategies to pimp my book.

If anyone has already undertaken a virtual venture, I cordially invite you to relate your experiences to illuminate the path for kindred Indie authors, myself included.

Lost in a blog fog of ignorance as to how this social marketing strategy actually benefits an Indie author from all the buzz generated by a promotional venue, I navigated the nebulous haze to find out as much as I could.

Push came to shove for me to get serious about scheduling a virtual blog tour immediately following the release of my Contemporary Women’s Fiction novel, AN ENLIGHTENING QUICHE (Sept. 20, 2016):

myBook.to/AnEQuiche

Why? Because, a Mel Brooks “high anxiety” set in after I sent out 26 press releases to local newspapers representing communities in my native state of Rhode Island, the smallest state in area, but the second most densely populated of the fifty US states. My resource for procuring a list comprised of newspaper titles, editors, email addresses, telephone numbers, and street addresses was obtained from:

EasyMediaList.com

Not a single response to set up an interview with one of their own! While I will allow a few more days to pass and follow up with phone calls to each editor, it is not my style to pout, sulk, and lament—but to take the bull by the horns!

So, I’m packing my Media Kit with author necessities conducive for a successful tour: book cover photo, author photo, bio, blurb, excerpt, book trailer, book buy links, giveaway promo, etc.

Let the blog tour de force begin!

I’ve got my sights on two so far:

THE BOOK ENTHUSIAST - Author Services Menu:

*My preference based on pricing and reputation: #1 Best Promotion Service at Preditors & Editors Poll 3 Years in a Row – PUMP UP YOUR BOOKS

I’m contemplating the One Month Book Blast which I’d like to schedule for November. As the holidays loom in our horizon, it’s high time to deck the blog tour halls with books. Fa la la la la la la la la!

Book Blog Tour: Blast or Bust?

As promised to those Indie authors who wanted me to share my experience in navigating the uncharted territory of booking a blog tour, here’s my take:

It’s no secret I’ve embarked on a month-long “Book Blast Tour” with PUMP UP YOUR BOOK:

http://tinyurl.com/jdgqfnb

I chose them because of:

1.The impressive citation: PUMP UP YOUR BOOK is an award-winning publicity company placing first in the P&E Readers Poll for Best Book Promotion Company in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

2.Author testimonials galore!

I opted for the One-Month Book Blast – November 7 – 30 (no limit on participants):

Book Blast Page includes your book cover, book blurb, and buying information. Also includes author bio including website links and other information the author would like included. This page will also host your book blast stops and comes with SEO optimization.

Maximum Social Media Exposure through participating blogs and PUMP UP YOUR BOOK.
Media Packet which will be sent to all blog hosts before your blast starts.

Cost = $90

Now for my diary of dilemmas in real time:

November 7, Day 1 – Had to contact the organizer because my book trailer was missing from the first blog stop. Corrected.

November 9, Day 3 – Informed the organizer the blog link netted the message, “Blog not found.” Updated with the correct link. Later, discovered a spelling error in my book title on the book plate image. Irritated!

November 10, Day 4 – Noticed my book feature was not posted at its stop, so wrote a note to the organizer who contacted the host there. The buck stopped there. Nada! Blown off!

Each day I dutifully make it a point to stop at each blog and leave a comment. Thus far along the tour, I feel like the only elephant loitering in the room, as I haven’t detected any visitor counter, or the number of blog followers to make me think this is a busy thoroughfare.

Be still, my heart! I nearly fell off my chair upon discovering a comment left by a reader expressing interest in my book. I feel somewhat exhilarated because I see other authors have no comments whatsoever.

The success or failure of such a venture hinges on the publicity company and bloggers who are responsible for directing traffic to their websites. After all, the reason I signed up for this tour of duty is to reach a targeted audience of potential readers.

Book Blast or Bust?

Although it’s early along my tour, I don’t predict a tidal surge in exposure, let alone one book sale! In my dual capacity as judge and jury, I’m rendering this verdict a BUST! I do not recommend any type of blog tour. Save your money!
