Eva’s Byte #285 – Taking Care of Biz

In a similar vein to Don Michael Corleone telling Carlo Rizzi in The Godfather Part 1, that today he settled all business—so did I.

Book biz, which ate a chunk of my morning, rendered me figuratively dizzy from going around in circles on the Internet.

Heeding the advice of my publisher, I engaged in the process of enrolling one of my books, An Enlightening Quiche (2016), in their new global distribution service. The benefits include, but are not limited to: direct payments, 100 % net royalties, and reduced print costs.

It still behooves any reader interested in acquiring the paperback version (signed copy) to do so through my web page at Authors Den ($18.50 includes s/h).

Now, to the nitty-gritty of taking care of biz:

It takes more than imagination for a story to take flight.

From my perspective: if I only knew then, what I know now from having gotten back into the published author’s swing of things in 2016, after a hiatus of several years. As with subsequent works published in 2017 and 2019, my next book will be solo self-published.

My personal decision is not meant as a criticism for those who choose other routes of publication. Each of us acts in accordance with fostering our best interests at heart.

In regard to the book biz of writing my Contemporary work in progress, I’m at the bunny-tail end of drafting chapter 57, Part 3. Pun intended, in association with researching recipes for redneck rabbit stew to authenticate a scene.

Whatever your biz, best wishes from start to finish.

*My sincere appreciation if you’ve read this far.

Eva’s Byte #534 – The Alteration

Trash vs. Treasure

I tread a fine line in determining what should be tossed and what should be kept. Assessing the contents of a storage closet every now and then, I recently questioned the validity of keeping an oblong accent pillow. Due to a few missing tassels, it had been put out to pasture on a shelf.

For me, parting with things can be such sweet sorrow.

Looking at the pillow from a new perspective, I came to the conclusion that its integrity would be preserved if I cut off all of the remaining tassels. In its altered state, the perimeter of gold-threaded loops gave the matching brocaded pillow an elegant new lease on life.

This treasure now resides on a bench in the middle of two other accent pillows.

In the capacity of a writer whose draft is subject to on-going alterations, I’m treading the finish line of chapter 20 (906 words thus far) along my Contemporary work in progress.

*May each of us view things in a new light.

My sincere appreciation to you for reading this far.

Eva’s Byte #535 – Dizzy

Identifying with the “pantser” approach to writing, whereby the plot progresses through unexpected twists and turns, I found myself at a crossroads. Always plotting a few chapters ahead to keep up the momentum, the windmills of my mind had spun a minimum of three scenarios to consider further down the road.

I could relate to Tommy Roe’s bubblegum pop music song, “Dizzy” (1969):

I'm so dizzy, my head is spinning
Like a whirlpool, it never ends.

After weighing the pros and cons of each direction to take, I settled upon the most plausible to incorporate in my Contemporary work in progress.

At this juncture, the draft of chapter 20 is complete (980 words). I’ve begun drafting chapter 20 (249 words thus far).

*May each of us weigh the impact of our pending decisions.

My sincere appreciation to you for reading this far.
