Eva’s Byte #328 – Frame of Mind

In the right frame of mind for preparing to move in the not-too-distant future, I’m still purging and paring down my material possessions.

This week I dealt with a wealth of photos amassed over the years. The kind taken when a camera had a roll of film inside, which one took to be developed after the 20th click—whenever.

I enjoyed thumbing through each envelope which entailed a time capsule of memories. One, in particular, stood out: a stunning photo of my mother taken during the summer of 1984.

Having also rounded up several unused picture frames to donate, I reclaimed a ceramic frame embellished with a rose to display this photo of my mother at the age of 54. She celebrates her 91st birthday on August 18th.

In my capacity as a writer, I’m approaching the finish line of my Contemporary, winding down Chapter 82, which is currently at 964 words. With an epilogue ahead of me, rounds of editing to do, a blurb to write, and foraging for a cover photo for my designer to work with—I can’t pinpoint a time frame to publish it. Since I progress at the speed of a snail, there’s no justification for me to rush production.

*May each of us adhere to our own time frame for doing things, cultivating memories along the way.

My sincere appreciation if you’ve read this far.

Eva’s Byte #445 – Framed

The collapse of an 8 x 10 picture frame stand opened a portal to family history:

Until this week, my mother’s picture frame withstood the test of time. The last survivor of her immediate family, the faded photo inside the frame captured a moment when the whole gang was here celebrating at my sister’s wedding fifty years ago.

Every picture tells a story.

Dismantling the old frame to remove a cherished vestige, I came across a treasure trove of three pristine photos on the subject of my sister, one of which was taken during her adolescence. I’ve stored them for safekeeping until I hand them over during her annual summer visit.

In the capacity of a writer, I’m drafting the framework for chapter 45 (858 words thus far), part of the big picture for my Contemporary work in progress.

*May each of us look beyond the obvious to see the big picture.

My sincere appreciation to you for reading this far.

Eva’s Byte #465 – Faces

There are faces I remember. Some have gone and some remain.

(Paraphrased from “In My Life” by the Beatles from their Rubber Soul album, released in 1965)

Kodak moments—some preserved in black and white; others in color. Snapshots developed from rolls of film. I couldn’t wait to rifle through the envelope to check out photos commemorating special occasions and family get-togethers.

Over the years I’ve amassed a slew of envelopes, each one its own time capsule. I got the notion to sort through all of the photos and put them in plastic bags. During this emotional process of categorizing, one becomes acutely aware of changes the passage of time has wrought.

In the face of time, this writer is in the process of drafting chapter 54 (428 words thus far) along the tail end of my Contemporary work in progress.

*May each of us maintain a healthy balance between holding on and letting go.

My sincere appreciation to you for reading this far.
