Eva’s Byte #225 – Making a World of Difference
To me, there’s nothing more profound than the simple cliché, “The best things in life are free”.
Since many of us in the 40+ age range make a world of difference to others in our capacity of caregiving, time and energy for fostering one’s well-being are often nonexistent. Speaking from personal experience, I let things get the best of me. I even berate myself for not being able to write more than I do.
Hence, the gift of “time” makes a world of difference, affording me the wherewithal to indulge in life’s simple, yet grandiose pleasures:
One of them, tending to my floral arrangements.
Staying home for a day or two, allows me to recuperate from the rush of running several errands, and driving back and forth in accommodation. I’m able to focus on my creative endeavors at the keyboard while sipping a Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee, preferably mocha or vanilla.
Since I thrive on very little sleep—4 to 5 hours at most, every now and then I enjoy an afternoon nap. Even better if that nap coincides with a rainy day.
The luxury of time allows me to recharge and build up my stamina for the next round with potential to ruffle my feathers.
I’ve yet to indulge in gifting myself a leisurely drive to the shore to reflect upon all that glimmers in my horizon. Until I do, I’m appreciative of the bay breeze wafting through my office windows on a relatively carefree day.
*What are your simple pleasures that make a world of difference?

Eva’s Byte #256: That One Saving Grace
For the times they are a-changin' (Bob Dylan)
Under siege during these changin’ times, it’s more important than ever to embrace one saving grace.
Throughout the COVID – 19 global pandemic, our life situation changes daily!
Most of us have been reduced to foraging for basic necessities by hoofing it in sneakers on the ground and/or searching online. The psychological and economic devastations in themselves provide plenty of fodder for writers of Sci-Fi or Dystopian literature.
One consistency amidst these constantly changin’ times—truth is stranger than fiction:
Trying to survive as best we can by stockpiling essentials for the inevitable mandate of sheltering-in-place—the scarcity of toilet paper has increased our anxiety—3-ply. Guilty as charged! Oh…but, the unmitigated joy in being able to replenish—a saving grace!
As for my own personal saving grace during these changin’ times—flowers.
They’re still plentiful in the florist section of the supermarket, an oasis in the surrounding desert of empty shelves. Carnations are my favorite. I’m in the habit of picking up a bunch every week without fail. Arranged in vases, I enjoy their beauty in my dining room and entryway. Nature’s bounty has been especially comforting during self-isolation.
As the number of those infected with the virus keeps escalating in my state, it will no longer be feasible for anyone to hoof it on foot to forage for staples, let alone, one saving grace that makes a profound difference during these changin’ times.
If you’ve read this far, thank you! Stay safe and be well.

Eva’s Byte #368 – Simple Pleasures
As the price of gasoline continues to escalate, and the number of COVID cases is on the rise, I’ve begun to take greater stock in life’s simple pleasures. Some of which I can enjoy within the confines of home. Others serve to distract me from the daily news.
These are ten of my simple pleasures, in no particular order:
My morning workout/daily walk
Maintaining a clean and organized home
Keeping my vehicle road-ready, clean, and shiny
Sipping vanilla or mocha iced coffee while working at my desk
Spritzing an uplifting fragrance before I head out
Foraging for sea glass at a nearby beach
My evening bath
Indulging in an at-home facial
Putting in time to solve a challenging crossword puzzle before calling it a night
Reading and writing
At this juncture in my capacity of a writer, I finished drafting chapter 12 (1595 words) of my Contemporary work in progress. The scene ends with two of my characters indulging in a peach cobbler and cup of coffee for dessert.
*Whatever transpires on the world stage, may each of us reap joy fine-tuning life’s simple pleasures.
My sincere appreciation if you’ve read this far.

Eva’s Byte #519 – Toughening It Out
“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”
(Quote attributed both to Joseph P. Kennedy, father of President John F. Kennedy, and football player/coach Knute Rockne)
As it remains to be seen just how tough things are going to get on the world stage, I’m toughening it out by embracing life’s simple pleasures within the sanctity of my own home, or close by.
Listening to ambient music while at the keyboard imbues a sense of calm.
Reading spirits me away to another realm.
As the weather becomes more user-friendly, I’ll resume foraging for sea glass at a nearby beach, enjoying the cacophony of seagulls squawking overhead.
In the capacity of a writer, I’m toughening out drafting my Contemporary work in progress. Chapter 12 is complete at 1404 words. Chapter 13 has progressed to 283 words thus far.
*As the going gets tough, may each of us implement our own coping mechanisms to foster peace of mind.
My sincere appreciation to you for reading this far.
