Blood on Black Wax
Dropping this weekend for Record Store Day is a book I co-wrote that's near and dear to my heart - and is definitely not for kids. Co-written with Aaron Lupton from Rue Morgue, Blood on Black Wax is a visual guide to horror movie soundtracks. Basically this was a fan's dream come true, with an opportunity to interview horror soundtrack greats, including John Carpenter, Christopher Young, Harry Manfredini, Richard Band, and more. An interview about the project is now up online at: https://vehlinggo.com/2019/04/10/bloo...

Tales From Beyond The Brain - Fall 2019
Coming this fall from Orca is "Tales From Beyond The Brain," an anthology of scary stories in the spirit of Tales From The Crypt, Creepshow, and every Amicus film I've ever seen...but for middle grade readers. Basically, this is one of my dream writing projects, and I'm beyond excited that it's finally coming to fruition. The amazing cover (and interior illustrations) come courtesy of the amazing Steven P. Hughes. Are you ready to go...beyond the brain?! For more details, follow the link:

Great new review for Brain Books
Super news - three books I co-wrote with my wife, Danielle Saint-Onge, about the human brain, are now available from Crabtree Publishing. The first review has come in, and it's stellar.
"There is so much to like about the series, “Exploring the Brain”. All four books in the series are current, informative, and engaging. The books are well-illustrated with colourful photos, graphic images, and humorous cartoon brain characters. The books are meant to educate and entertain. They do both very well."Train Your Brain: How Your Brain Learns Best

Great news! Sheldon Unger Vs. The Dentures of Doom has made the longlist for the 2017 Sunburst Awards, celebrating Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic. My First Blog (Not a Creative Title, I Know. It's Friday.)
It's Friday afternoon, and the final school bell has rung. There is a delightful silence that descends upon the school at this time, a moment of calm that happens but once a week. All teachers know this moment that should be savored as the weekend unfurls before you. Yes, very soon there will be traffic to contend with, and Toronto traffic at that. But now, in this brief moment of serenity, I'm sitting in an empty classroom, ignoring the scattered papers on the floor, or the pencils that were not put away, or the board game that a group of eight year-olds attempted to put away, but did so in such a precarious manner that it requires my attention. All I hear is the hum of the fan and my fingers tapping on the keyboard. The morning message has been scrawled on the wall, and my dayplans are but a "print" command away. This, dear readers, is my favorite time of the week; the first true deep breaths of a Friday afternoon.
