3 Reasons to Read Solo Planet with Friends
If you’ve listened to any of my recent podcast and website interviews, you’ve probably heard me encourage people to read Solo Planet: How Singles Help the Church Recover Our Calling] with friends. The reason? The best thing this book could possibly do in your life is strengthen and deepen some of your existing relationships.
In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General issued the report Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation and launched a whole section of resources. Solo Planet helps readers, single and married alike, look at how day-to-day concerns from meals to housing can deepen our community.
As reviewer Alexandra DeSanctic Marr writes for the Acton Institute: “Even the married need more social structure and connection than the relationships within their homes. How can we make room for those in our midst who are not immediately connected to us by familial bonds or the relationships that flow naturally from marriage and parenthood? Broadway’s work suggests that a renewed effort to answer that question might not only enable Christian churches to better serve their single members but also might contribute to easing the broader loneliness from which so many around us suffer.”
Goodreads reviewers attest that reading Solo Planet with others has yielded "fruitful conversations." To thank you for reading the book with others this summer, I'm doing some special giveaways. Learn how to participate.

What's worthy of celebration
With "wedding season" upon us, I dove into the fraught question of celebration for Christianity Today. For many singles I've talked to, this is a bittersweet time that raises questions about what's worthy of celebration. Why only milestones, and not maturity? Why things tied to one's relational status? Read the article here.

New, for the Wall Street Journal: What singles need as churches reopen
In this oped for the Journal's weekly religion column, "Houses of Worship," I expand on my research on singleness to report how pandemic worship restrictions play out for singles. I also report on the creative ways some churches seek to integrate singles and families as they return to worship.

New, for the New York Times: Rethinking platonic touch
Three years ago today, I landed in Europe for the start of what proved a 17-month trip to research singleness. I’m grateful for the chance to tell New York Times readers more about how that trip changed my views of touch: Americans, It’s Time to Get Comfortable With Platonic Touch.
