The Moon Is A Hologram is a queer sci-fi romance paying homage to classic sci-fi films like Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Day the Earth Stood Still, while maintaining director Selene Kapsaski’s punk sensibilities. It touches on subjects such as the rise of transphobia and the far right in the UK.
Sasha, played by Robyn Adams (The Estrogen Gospel), returns to her hometown to find it taken over by aliens. Along the way, she meets Jess (Jessie Leiper) and Mike (Frank Bertoletti), a nihilistic young trans couple, and the three form a polyamorous relationship amidst the chaos of a mysterious epidemic that grips the city.
