I learned a long time ago that if you're struggling to get started on a major effort or you're not sure where or how to start, just take one small aspect and get started. Repeat that and the next thing you know you've actually accomplished quite a bit and only need to fill in the gaps. In writing, I'll start by relaxing, taking a walk and trying to clear my mind. Then I'll write down notes or an outline. Maybe I'm not sure how I want the next chapter to read, but I can envision a scene from later in the book. So I'll write that while I'm excited about it and then come back to where I left off later. Anyway, it works for me.(less)

It often gives me insight into myself and allows me to see things from multiple perspectives.(less)
